  2. I worked at Royal Mail

    Pros

Overall, for a non-graduate this would serve as a base to acquire some work experience. The basic pay package is better than most firms in the UK, which explains why many foreigners start-up with this company.

    Cons

Conversely, for graduates of non-UK institutions who generally find themselves working here, feel and are 'trapped' in the environment which is a 'dead' end job situation for them.

    Pros

    > Fantastic company to work for - good pay, good work/life balance and benefits
    > Fascinating people - you meet so many interesting people at RM

    Cons

    > Old-fashioned approach, can be frustratingly slow to see change happen. Age profile of staff and management is heavily weighted towards the over-40s
    > Although they are tackling the problem, in some areas a 1970s culture is still clearly visible. This is improving steadily, however.

    Advice to Management

    > Focus on personal development for employees and speed up the pace of cultural change within the business - RM has transformed itself very quickly given the scale of the organisation, but

Great job , out and about , keep fit, good pay and pension scheme. Good uniform . Internal progression possible,

    Cons

Management hieracy not great , unrealistic pressure put on to complete jobs. Have to use trolleys which slow you down and this aint factorex in to walk correctly.

    Advice to Management

Treat everyone fairly , walks should be made using postmans imput not a software programme. More interaction with employees to bring you closer together.

    Pros

Progressive, rewarding and great people who work all hours, in all conditions to deliver for the residents and businesses in the UK

    Cons

Going through transition it will be a major shift and the customer could get lost in the cross over. Staff being challenged to change and that is causing tension

    Advice to Management

Focus on the customer, set out the strategy for the future and keep it simple

    Pros

Good salary, large secure company that is governed by rules to protect the employee. Bonuses given for just turning up

    Cons

Management have clear favourites for career progression and are very secretive. The employees are the last to know anything that is happening with the company and BBC news is more informative that the leaders.

    Advice to Management

Talk to your employees and tell them what is happening! Stop allowing the press to inform them what is happening to the company before they hear from you.

    Pros

Good money. Hard job but enjoyable. Team work and socialising. Learning and chance of travel.
Depends on what kind of person you are and if free to commit

    Cons

Exhaustion from standing on feet all day. Bad atmosphere due to lack of team work. Laziness and different shift work required night too. Wrong sorting into areas, damage of goods for the public. Late delivery of items

    Advice to Management

Good experience and can use in future administration roles. Good team work will get the work done quicker and reliable people local can be more supportive. Great firm as took me on I can't drive even something in the postal work for everyone - it adds some excitement...
