    Pros

Great challenges at work if you know how to create opportunities and run with it. Big company so lots of areas where you could interesting projects to deliver value and develop your skill sets.

    Cons

Be prepared to be part of the old public sector mentality as it is a bit like old boys club. Be prepare to lobby with old veterans and movers& shakers at top if you wish to successfully progress your career internally; alternatively wait for them to offer you voluntary redundancy,

    Pros

Very poor management skills especially of people that have any form of disability. Use heavy handed and bullying tactics to quiet people.

    Cons

Money good for jobs but nothing else.

    Pros

The best thing about Royal Mail are the people who work there. This flows through to an excellent customer service ethic where satisfaction is delivered to the highest order.

    Cons

Sometimes change within the company is to slow, it needs to decide to do something and then just do it!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Listen to the staff sometimes

    Tiring but nice

Former Employee - Casual Christmas Parcel Sorter in London, England (UK)

I worked at Royal Mail as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

I worked only over the christmas period, the people were lovely and we were allowed to listen to our own music and the like as long as you were paying attention to your surroundings, so I managed to listen to quite a few great lectures while working.

    Cons

Night-shift and endless sorting of parcels can be tiring when you're standing for hours and lead to back pain, but with a bit of ibuprofen you get used to it.

Overall not a bad employer but with a very bad structure and without any serious development plans for the employees.

I have been working at Royal Mail full-time

    Pros

Low pressure, too much fat allows for mistakes to be forgiven, worklife balance.
Very big organisation covering a very wide aspect of each professional field.

    Cons

    Too many senior employees.
    Command and control practices.
The HR function doesn't provide any strategic direction.
Despite its size, instead of leading the way, it struggles to follow what the competitors do.

I have been working at Royal Mail full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good Benefits, Good Holiday time off

    Cons

Work hours are too long and they expect you to give up your life to do the job. For the salary they pay, this is unacceptable. I have also seen cuts to workforce over the past few years and an increase in workload for those left. This used to be a good career, now its just an annoying job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have things go back to the way they were.

I have been working at Royal Mail full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

There are not many. The pay is good for what it is and it's nice to get out of the office, managing your own time and meeting all sorts of people. Camaraderie between staff is good. It keeps you fit.

    Cons

No promotion opportunities, most front line managers are overpaid, unqualified supervisors who constantly use threatening/bullying tactics and lie to staff to get them to work overtime, treated with contempt if you phone in sick.

Temporary part timers are used and abused regularly, pressured into doing more than they should with the constant threat of no contract renewal in a few months time. Family friendly seems to be a myth as parents are penalised if their children are ill. I could go on...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have witnessed line managers who fraudulently pay themselves overtime, disgusting bully boy behaviour towards employees, and a couldn't care less attitude towards health and safety. There are no opportunities for personal growth and the constant drive for efficiency should now be focused on management of all levels.

I have been working at Royal Mail full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good Money, Afternoons Off, Plenty of overtime, meeting people, xmas tips

    Cons

Early mornings, physically and mentally draining as the rounds get bigger and bigger with less time to do them in, not like the old days where you could stop and chat to someone now theres no time for that! You will get moved from pillar to post if you dont have your own round! The Weather Alot of mail is delayed for days as some managers refuse to pay overtime or help you if you cant complete

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Before you design these killer deliveries try going out yourself and seeing if you can do them, dont expect us to get done on time if it's impossible
