    Pros

The sheer size of the organisation means that you have the opportunity to work in a variety of professions or locations, with the same employer.

    Cons

The company went through a number of changes and reorganisations, which could be quite stressful at times.

    Advice to Management

I would suggest the development of a Royal Mail Alumni. This could allow you to manage your employer brand, and stay close to talent you may want to re-employ in the future.

Progression on becoming a like manager is competitive however extremely beneficial once achieved.

    Pros

Speaking to customers and building relationships Good hourly rate Good hours pension scheme bonuses

    Cons

Only 20 hour contract Absorbing rounds now so no chance of much overtime Not much scope for promotion.

    Advice to Management

Whilst I accept things had to change, it would serve Royal Mail management well to not treat the company as a financial exploitation pit, as a lot of customers are already complaining. (Why you turning up this late.etc) They will go elsewhere in the long run. No one can live on 20 hours a week and you have a good work force there.

    Pros

Great, once you actually get outdoors. The pay is good for what I do.

    Cons

Bullying managers are the norm. it's a dead end job as there's hints of redundancy to come, Royal Mail's going from public to private sector.A lot of sickness due stress and wear and tear on people's body's.You must walk about 40- 50 miles a week.

    Advice to Management

Stop treating your staff as the enemy.Talking to them in a polite manner isn't a sign of weakness.

    Pros

Fairly laid back. Check your brain at the door and listen to pod casts or audio books for five hours. Overtime usually available. Lots of time to converse with some fairly interesting people. Lateral career development, you can go drive a van if you want.

    Cons

Overly simple tasks, basically just do one thing most of the time. Disfunctional air conditioning in their large facilities, its a sweat shop in the summer. Line managers interfering in various ways, especially with the younger employees where they would often treat you like trash. There is a lot of seniority in Royal Mail and having a bit of silver in your hair means you never get bothered and can pretty much get away with murder. They generally just add drama but sometimes worse. When the line managers were absent for whatever reason everything ran smoother.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the line managers

    Pros

The best thing is the possible early finishes. Though these are slowly dwindling as more and more people are given more work to fill up there time for being efficient.

    Cons

Delays in receiving the mail. Managers who act like they have your best interests in mind but are only trying to save their own skin. Some rounds that are just too big, others that are too small and managers that have no idea of how the rounds are. Inefficient sorting methods for mail at delivery offices. Poor work clothing. Why is there not some sort of breathable fabric (like climacool) for the summer?
