    Great peers, so-so management

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Boston, MA

ProsTeam mates on your own level are friendly and great to work with
    Decent health and dental benefits
    "Hip" young environment

ConsManagement keeps all changes to themselves until the day they are implemented
Difficult to get suggestions and changes made from the bottom up

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your employees ideas and give them a chance to implement them.
Focus less on production and numbers, and focus more on creating something great.

Bagel fridays and sample sales are the best part about working here. everything else is disastrous.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Boston, MA

ProsSome of the people are really great.

ConsThe company works at a sprint pace and with no time to breath. Everything is a disaster and everything is a urgent problem.

Advice to Senior ManagementMy manager doesn't allow our department to adhere to the summer fridays (get to leave at 3 on fridays from memorial day to labor day)

    Would not recommend to anyone.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsMajority of the employees are great! Very cool office space, young and good location.

ConsOver worked and under paid. Poor upper management. A lot of unhappy people, most disorganized company I have ever worked for.
They spend a lot of time focusing on their image as a company when in reality their people are stressed and miserable. Lots of turnover. Pride themselves on snack closet (which is disappointing) and bagel Friday which is great if you actually have time to step away from your desk!

Looked soooo promising but overall very disappointing

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Boston, MA

ProsBest part about working at Rue was the people, the cool office space and of course the sample sales. Great stuff at unreal prices. But after a while.. just how much stuff do you need? And really... great people are everywhere.
    Rue does offer excellent benefits.

ConsThe Sr Leadership team does not trust the people they have hired to get work done. They tell you great things before you get there and then once you arrive it all changes.
Also they made very little investment in their employees. Little to no budget for training and so little opportunity for growth.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your team and stop telling people how to do their jobs.Trust your teammates. Get out of the way and let others lead. You will be amazed at what they are willing to deliver for you!

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Burn-out Central

    Senior Software Engineer (Former Employee)
    Boston, MA

ProsYoung, team, free snacks, nice looking office space. Keggerator.

ConsTheir values are a lie. They care very little for their employees and will be relentlessness with unreasonable demands within a short timeframe. Burn out rate is very high at this place, hence the high level of turn over.

    Advice to Senior ManagementStop micro-managing.

    great people, poor upper management

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

Prossuper talented people, laid back environment, great products

Conslack of communication, vision, and the people at the bottom are pasted along everyone's work. lack of job roles.

Advice to Senior Managementappreciate your people and listen to them and try and figure out how to keep everyone happy while staying balanced. Have employees know there expectations and job roles.

    Poor leadership at Corporate

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGreat brands at great prices. Strong sales so company should be considered pretty stable.

ConsManagement doesn't listen to employees. Unorganized and unclear job roles. 80% of the work is done by 20% of the people. Succeeding in spite of some poor leaders.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to people in their respective areas of expertise. Don't just have top down management but get everyone involved and have clear job descriptions and expectations.

    Too bureaucratic for its size

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

Proscompetitive benefits package, onsite gym, summer Fridays, brand recognition

ConsIncredibly bureaucratic for a company this size, little to no promotion within, too many "cooks in the kitchen"

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your employees, provide an atmosphere of growth

Spiraling in on the technology side--too little, too late

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Boston, MA

ProsThe scenery, the coolness factor of the location, the recognizable brand. Some good people. Lots of people in interesting clothes.

ConsAfter most of the senior software developers and QA engineers departed for better companies, there are maybe three employees left who understand the legacy systems and archaic software underpinning Rue's admittedly popular site.

Newer technologies are slowly being introduced, but the business tools needed to remain competitive and agile in the marketplace have been made a lower priority.

Toxic corporate culture--massive egotism at the top, way too many "chiefs", and overworked and under-rewarded front-line staff.

Apparent inability to attract and retain talented and motivated workers.

Advice to Senior ManagementHeroism isn't sustainable, especially when the front-line people keeping the site functioning and profitable aren't offered anything like the stock grants and bonuses the executives award themselves annually.

Merge with or acquire Ideeli; rebrand their modern, working platform as needed, instead of trying to rewrite the Rue platform from scratch.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
