I worked at Rue La La

    Pros

Majority of the employees are great! Very cool office space, young and good location.

    Cons

Over worked and under paid. Poor upper management. A lot of unhappy people, most disorganized company I have ever worked for.
They spend a lot of time focusing on their image as a company when in reality their people are stressed and miserable. Lots of turnover. Pride themselves on snack closet (which is disappointing) and bagel Friday which is great if you actually have time to step away from your desk!

I worked at Rue La La full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Best part about working at Rue was the people, the cool office space and of course the sample sales. Great stuff at unreal prices. But after a while.. just how much stuff do you need? And really... great people are everywhere.
    Rue does offer excellent benefits.

    Cons

The Sr Leadership team does not trust the people they have hired to get work done. They tell you great things before you get there and then once you arrive it all changes.
Also they made very little investment in their employees. Little to no budget for training and so little opportunity for growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your team and stop telling people how to do their jobs.Trust your teammates. Get out of the way and let others lead. You will be amazed at what they are willing to deliver for you!

I worked at Rue La La full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Young, team, free snacks, nice looking office space. Keggerator.

    Cons

Their values are a lie. They care very little for their employees and will be relentlessness with unreasonable demands within a short timeframe. Burn out rate is very high at this place, hence the high level of turn over.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stop micro-managing.

I have been working at Rue La La full-time

    Pros

Great brands at great prices. Strong sales so company should be considered pretty stable.

    Cons

Management doesn't listen to employees. Unorganized and unclear job roles. 80% of the work is done by 20% of the people. Succeeding in spite of some poor leaders.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to people in their respective areas of expertise. Don't just have top down management but get everyone involved and have clear job descriptions and expectations.

I have been working at Rue La La full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

competitive benefits package, onsite gym, summer Fridays, brand recognition

    Cons

Incredibly bureaucratic for a company this size, little to no promotion within, too many "cooks in the kitchen"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees, provide an atmosphere of growth

I worked at Rue La La full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The scenery, the coolness factor of the location, the recognizable brand. Some good people. Lots of people in interesting clothes.

    Cons

After most of the senior software developers and QA engineers departed for better companies, there are maybe three employees left who understand the legacy systems and archaic software underpinning Rue's admittedly popular site.

Newer technologies are slowly being introduced, but the business tools needed to remain competitive and agile in the marketplace have been made a lower priority.

Toxic corporate culture--massive egotism at the top, way too many "chiefs", and overworked and under-rewarded front-line staff.

Apparent inability to attract and retain talented and motivated workers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Heroism isn't sustainable, especially when the front-line people keeping the site functioning and profitable aren't offered anything like the stock grants and bonuses the executives award themselves annually.

Merge with or acquire Ideeli; rebrand their modern, working platform as needed, instead of trying to rewrite the Rue platform from scratch.

I worked at Rue La La

    Pros

    fun co-workers
    decent work space
some fun events throughout the year

    Cons

Bad management, upper management lie to employees a lot. Management cannot or will not listen to what you have to say no matter how professional or polite you are. There is very little room to move up in the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees, don't just say you will and never actually do anything to improve a situation.
