Pros
its a job and thats all i can say about it.. other locations are probably better but this one is one of thee biggest and its so poorly ran.
Cons
constant social issues, political drama, everything is based on who is friends with whom. THe shop is poorly maintained, yet they preach safety. nothing works as it SHOULD.
Advice to Senior Management
Get out there and investigate the crimes being committed. Theft is rampant.. Theft of time and materials. Integrity does not matter here. And upper management has been given proof and it was swept under the carpet.
Pros
Lots of training available and paid for by Ryder (reinmbursed when passed). Good working facility and some of the best overall benefits in the industry (i.e. vacation time, sick leave, medical, etc.). Techs are carefully screened before being hired--no drug addicts, trouble makers etc. It is nice to work on mostly newer vehicles (no old dump trucks, junkers).
Cons
No upward communication, severe micro-management, poor hiring techniques (pulling from the fuelers into the shop as techs!!!???). We are always under stress for job security due to the supposed "Safety Program." When an RAB (risk associated behavior) is received, there is NO way to even communicate with the person that handed it down. RABs are handed out 2 at a time and you are fired after 3 RABs in a rolling 3 year period. You can even get an RAB for a speeding ticket. Many techs have quit or been fired because of this program, or just plain won't hire on because of the Ryder reputation. The few remaining trained techs are overworked and underpaid. I have had only a 2% raise within 3 years and am still at the low end of the pay scale for my skill set. Ryder only hires "Yes men" for management (i.e. puppets for Swienton). The few of us who remain do so for the benefits and the work facilities.
Advice to Senior Management
Rework the payscale system; stop preferential hiring of family and friends; do away with or rework the Safety System (RAB) program to increase job security and employee satisfaction. Stop the micro-management or give more power to the in-house management. Hire techs from the trade tech schools, bring them in on a bonus with a multi-year contract. Make sure when someone is sent to training, they have adequate transportation/housing PRIOR to leaving, and are at the training location BEFORE the class starts (day before).
Pros
Fun environment to work in, get to meet anll kind of different people ln walks of life. And feeling like being apart of a team.
Cons
Not knowing the pay scale for your job title ,not getting any bonuses threw out the year. Given opportunities to make extra money.
Advice to Senior Management
If you know your employees are employee is doing well ask them is anything you can do to make their situation better.
Pros
Supply chain design for complex projects.
Cons
minimal opportunity for advancement for mid level managers.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to grow business
Pros
Great Experience, decent people, alright pay, decent hours, promotional opportunity,
Cons
corporate office is terrible. Management has no idea what there doing. You get no real training. Money and promotions isn't really there unless you wanna move.
Advice to Senior Management
Get to know your employees better. More training and less micro managing. Higher pay should be reciever with more promotional oportunnitys
Pros
Never a dull moment. Always something new and changing going on. A paycheck once every two weeks, and don't have to see the bosses much.
Cons
Not seeing the bosses much is a good thing because there isn't much respect for the individual employee, and they will screw with you and your hard work and your pay. Maybe it's just this account but really, be wary.
Advice to Senior Management
Respect your people. Make sure that you're taking care of them the way they take care of you. If they're doing a certain job, pay them for it.
Pros
Best reason to work at Ryder is the "second family" that you develop from contacts throughout the United States. Almost all are team-players and have great attitudes.
Cons
The only downfall to some locations at Ryder is the area location of a given manager. They can be located in a different state and you may rarely see them.
Advice to Senior Management
Regards to higher management. Good work while I was there.
Pros
The time off is accommodating.
Cons
The way promotions are handled, pay caps, communication between management and employees is only downward.
Advice to Senior Management
Try to promote from within like they say they do.
Pros
Strong company, good plan for future growth. In acquisition mode, buying companies to fill holes in the companie's portfolio. Company pays for training and has many opportunities to grow in the company.
Cons
Forget raises or increases, get your money when you walk in the door. There is no motto that Ryder's people are their best asset. I expect a great deal of turnover as the market improves.
Advice to Senior Management
Take care of your people! The economy is picking up, and if you don't take care of folks, you will lose them!!
Pros
Company name will look good on your resume
Cons
Lack of leadership, lack of processes. Low salary, no work/life balance. Bad benefits.
Advice to Senior Management
The Ryder program that supports HP LATAM in Doral is run by incompetent people. This should be run by US personnel that are familiar with our customs as well as our labor and business laws instead of LATAM managers and directors who don't know anything about our culture and the way we do business here.
