Maintenance supervisor

Maintenance Supervisor (Former Employee)

I worked at Ryder System full-time for more than a year

ProsFlexible time and project management. I as long as you get the job responsibilities and expectations done you were free to handle the position as you deem fit.

ConsDisconnected management. even though upper management traveled to our location constantly they seemed disconnected with what was going on and I observed several times the actual disregard for under management success. Pay scale was not equal or fair according to the responsibilities doled out. I was also taken advantage off in the fact that the company put my cell phone on the business card, but offered no reimbursement. So low pay and weak benefit all around..

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement should walk the walk and not just talk the talk. Be apart of your teams success that way everyone wins. Re-valuate the compensation according to job responsibilities and work performed. I saved the company 13,000 dollars on one service contract. You know i never got a thank you.

Mixed feeling about working here

Logistics Engineer (Former Employee)

I worked at Ryder System full-time for more than 5 years

ProsIt was a fun place to work with opportunities to learn new skills.

Management allows tele-commuting.

ConsGetting promoted to the next level took too long.

My boss was out of state and was somewhat out of touch with my accomplishments.

Good Company

Sales (Current Employee)
San Jose, CA

I have been working at Ryder System full-time for more than a year

ProsGood place to work. Lots of tenure at the higher levels in the company. Good pay for the industry. Strong industry presence. Good co-workers

ConsHigh turnover at the rental counter. stressful industry, very time sensitive. Service shops could be more supportive of sales.

Great company!

General Manager (Current Employee)
Dallas, TX

I have been working at Ryder System full-time for more than 10 years

ProsEmployed over 10 yrs with company. Transportation company so no matter how bad economy gets, trucks are still needed to move product.

New business/clients provides above average stability

Supply chain side of business offers great exposure and experiences to different industries without having to switch jobs.

Very good corporate culture that values employee growth

Year end bonuses depending on the account performance & company performance

ConsSometimes there are very long hours & weekend work if you support a retail or start up account.

Pay raises are minimal.

Stability is dependent on client renewing contract.

great company to work for

DIESEL TECH II (Current Employee)
San Antonio, TX

I have been working at Ryder System full-time for less than a year

Prosthey offer great benefits, great pay. very safety oriented. they offer some sort of tuition assistance, and will contribute to your 401k even if you dont. awesome vacation time as well.

Consthe only real con is that they do not have a tool allowance program, but at the competitive rates they pay it still works out. tuition reimbursement does not seem to be easily attainable for a general education, seems they only help out with courses directly related to your field of business and must be approved before you enroll in a course.

Advice to Senior Managementgreat job, only recommendation from me would be to be more flexible with the tuition assistance as it benefits both the employee and the company once the employee has completed a degree.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Overall Positive, Not much negative issues to express. Worst experiences at other jobs.

Logistics Manager (Current Employee)
Novi, MI

I have been working at Ryder System full-time for more than 5 years

ProsAbility to move up and promotion from within. Tuition reimbursement, ability to mange accounts without a lot of top down management.

ConsMaintaining balance between work and home. Many times there can be times with days off whe you may have to still handle major issues that escalate. Balance of pay can be an issue certain Accounts have different pay scales for same position which is unfair.

Advice to Senior ManagementFair wage practices, and ability to keep employees by matching other company's wages.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

downhill

Csc (Former Employee)

I worked at Ryder System full-time for more than 10 years

ProsOk benefit; although copays/deductibles are now pretty high
coworkers are great

ConsFront line employees treated horribly
company drive to please stockholders means understaffed, micromanaged.
Impossible to do workload company demands.
NO job security. They will fire most convenient scapegoat to avoid dealing with systemic issues

Advice to Senior ManagementGoals of lower costs;higher productivity admirable, but not achievable by micromanagement.
Face real problems-SMO is a mess. Polishing it doesnt work. Need to gut and start over-THAT would double productivity. Staff shops so people can actually get workload done. BOA is not valid in most shops.
