    Not Top 100 Anymore

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsStill a family company for the employees that are valued

ConsCannot say that ALL employees are seen as valuable or treated according to core principles (TWB)

Advice to Senior ManagementStop - Replacing Executive Leadership with external hires who have no long-term interest in SCJ
Start - Getting back to your core principles (TWB) and employees first
Continue - To pursue innovation and alternative markets to drive profit margins

No process. All informal and relationship based. Cultish and hypocritical. Fear is the only rule.

    Engineering (Current Employee) Racine, WI

ProsDon't have to do any leading edge or hard stuff. Just hang out and shop at the company store. Remember to say yes and be average and you'll be fine. I was duped into coming here. At least I've figured out how to get by.

ConsClaim to be a nice place but its hypocritical. Best advise is keep your head down, do as you're told, don't take any initiative or you'll be knocked down. Mgmt is not transparent at all to employees. The all hands meetings are just full of corp fluff talk with positive spin. When it really matters employees are treated like children and told only enough to keep them quiet. Not a great brand name on your résumé. You won't get head hunted because you work here unfortunately. The longer you stay you lose your edge and forget how to excel in the outside world.

Advice to Senior ManagementReally clue in to how damaging the culture is to company growth. Stop being so insular. Get rid of HR. they are nothing more than police goons and execution robots. Wake up to the fact the next generation may not want anything to do with you. Invest more in developing your people. Cut the handcuffs and let people make some decisions. Not everything needs to run all the way up the pole. Trust people more.

Great company with great corporate values and global brands

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGood internal work environment, believes in and drives new product innovation, is passionate and proactive in commitment to sustainability initiatives and is ahead of the industry in this area.

ConsToo centralized & many people involved; hence slow in decision making; not an empowered work culture, only initiatives that emanate from the top get resources; processes are behind peer companies, low on rewards and recognition.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to build an empowering culture to leverage the potential of people within the organization. Need to be more aggressive in rewards and recognition & invest in training and building people capability.

Used to be a good company

    Marketing (Former Employee) Racine, WI

    Pros+Good benefits and competitive salary
    +Good portfolio of brands
+Company full of smart, talented experts (smart people in R&D, marketing, etc.)
+Some training and industry workshops available to help you keep up with undustry trends

Cons-Very political environment. Subjective on how businesses should be run and whats right for the business. -A lot depends on who you work for, but some bosses are idiots or expect way too much from their people
-If a business is not performing well or meeting goals, expect a ton of scrutiny and pressure (along with hours).
-Making any decision requires having 12 conversations and getting alignment with everyone (everyone wants a say or has an opinion)
-Culture going through transformation, placing greater emphasis on speed than ever before
-Worklife balance non existance, especialy if the expectation is you login at night and respond to email.

Advice to Senior ManagementWake up! Speed as a Leadership Imperative and Performance Management Metric is not the answer to beat the competition, especially if not all functions have bought into the concept. Empower people at ALL levels of the organization to make decisions. Stop micromanaging and let people have their space. Offer guidance, but give autonomy to the business units - they know whats best, not the suits in the boardroom.

    Mostly positive

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Racine, WI

ProsHas received numerous & repeated "Best Places to Work" recognition worldwide, benchmarked against similar companies, also environmentally & socially conscious and award-winning. Publishes product ingredients on website. Privately held, has employee profit sharing. Global company, has opportunities for travel or rotations to positions wordwide.

ConsMay not be THE best place to work (but still among the best). Self insured health insurance plans have pluses & minuses. Average vacation policies.

    Relationship oriented company

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Racine, WI

ProsIf you work for this company you need to be ready to develop strong relationships in order to advance. Much of the promotion and advancement within is determined by who your sponsors are and who will go out on a limb for you. This is good if you are someone who works well in teams.

ConsPretty much the same as the Pros but if you are not someone who likes to develop these relationships then it might be difficult to do well there. And, it seems that a lot of the work is done in LONG, over scheduled meetings!

    Great values and culture

    HRM (Former Employee) Racine, WI

ProsValues and the style of people who work there. The family feeling of this comes across well and is now hardened up with astute management. Make good acquistions every few years of good brands.

ConsA bit traditional at times. Maybe slower to market than it could be and less risk.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more aggressive.
