Former Employee – worked at S.P. Richards part-time for more than a year

ProsI loved working there. I was straight out of highschool, going to college. The pay was pretty good starting out, and they gave you several raises within the first year. All of the upper management were very friend, there were several occasions where advancement opportunities arose and we were all encouraged to apply. I worked in the warehouse so it was pretty fast paced, and the first couple months I struggled to meet quota, but once you get used to the layout of the area it is all good. 401k was pretty good as well.

ConsThe only downside, and this isn't even that big of a deal, was that there were busy months and slow months, and obviously the workload and available hours was reflected upon the employees in those months.

ProsGood pay, great benefits, (medical, vision, dental, 401K, matched company contributions, paid holidays).

ConsManagement team is composed of very arrogant individuals who try to drag employees down to their feet simply because managers hold a higher position than the hourly paid employees. Supposedly there is an "open door" policy, which I've witnessed management reject any feedbacks or inputs employees had or any ideas on ways to make the facility a productive workplace (both, the employee and the company). Im short, the management is a group of arrogant, egotistic and selfish individuals who believe hey have total control of employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your employees suggestions, be more open minded. Or quit your position as a manager.

ProsGood pay. Straight forward work. In my branch the coworkers are nice and there is a unique culture there. Hard working managers, care about the work. Weekends off.

ConsVery little opportunity for advancement, but that is partly the nature of the work. Difficult to switch shifts. Not flexible, hard to take days off. As a warehouse worker they are not really concerned with your personal life/plans if it interferes with work at all. Though this is usually reasonable considering the type of work it can go overboard.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up the good work. But recognize that employees work harder and are more committed to a work place where they feel valued and are given opportunities for personal growth.

Prosgood pay for no education needed, good benefits

Consget the feeling they set you up to fail as a team, not concerned about your outside life, time off, management seems to be about themselves, upper management all about profit. Cash happy yet laid people off, now we are constantly short people and getting overtime.

ProsBenefits, benefits and benefits. Pay is among the best. And the job is not that hard. Did I mention about the benefits?!?!

ConsLike most companies in this economy we are running "lean and mean." This means that if you are a continual screwup you still get to keep your job!! WTF ?!?!?!

Advice to Senior ManagementWith the number of unemployed in this country, why do we continue to hang onto the poor performers? What happened to the good old days of being called onto the carpet for every mistake!!

ProsStable, stable, it wants 5 words add what you want

Conshaving a manager that doesnt know how to do my job but loves to tell me how to do it. some people don't need a babysitter

Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of the baby sitters and hire someone that knows how to do the job rather than bringing those that know how to do it down to their level.

Former Employee – worked at S.P. Richards

ProsMost of the employees are great to work with. the pay was fair, and the benefits are good.

ConsLack of information sharing between management and employees.
You have to almost beg for time off. Your given the evil eye if your children get sick or god forbid you have a death in the family.
Lack of respect given to employees. Your treated as children that have to be given direction in every task.
Lack of hiring in new employess. SP Richards would rather have 8 people working 12 hours a day than 10 people working 9 hours a day.

Advice to Senior ManagementI would tell them having a family is a blessing. Just because some senior managers choose not to have families doesnt give them to right to punish those that do. Most people work to live, nor live to work. Shareing information empowers people. Dont assume that since you have a college education their is no way in hell a lower level employee wouldnt understand purchase agreements, shipping schedules, freight costs, balance sheets, or just adding 2 + 2.
