Former Employee – worked at S&C Electric full-time
Pros – High quality products and excellent corporate leadership. S&C is able to compete well with its larger competitors and is very well respected in the industry. It has forged strong bonds with the IEEE Power and Energy Society.
Cons – Not very many employment opportunities available outside the Midwest.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Former Employee – worked at S&C Electric full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – If you can play politics, you sure don't hve to work much or get anything done
Cons – Awful politics, low pay, you are expected to kiss butt for some managers and then put up with infighting between depts the rest of the time. work is boring and repetitive
Advice to Senior Management – get some professional vp's please- not ones who are only looking out for themselves, especially int he remote offices away from chicago

Former Employee – worked at S&C Electric full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Used to be a great company to work at.
Loosing money by the millions each month is driving management crazy and stressed.
Cons – It was a mistake to sign-up to work there.
Avoid that company!
Corporate politics and more politics.
Going down.
Advice to Senior Management – Competitions are for helping you to get your act together. and learn from the mistakes!

Current Employee – been working at S&C Electric as a contractor for less than a year
Pros – Company has been in business for a 100 years.
Company doesn't lay off during hard times.
Company is striving to be 100% owned by employees
Cons – No patience for new employees
Inadequate training.
Low pay.
Advice to Senior Management – Take time to get know your employees
Allow sufficient time for training.
Don't expect everyone to be on the same level for grasping the job that they are training for.
If a person has a problem (medical or personal) show a little compassion.

Current Employee – been working at S&C Electric full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – If you are an older employee or 'sunset career' employee, this is a good place to work to finish off your career.
All internships are paid (fairly well), so it may be a good opportunity for interns.
Most hourly and manufacturing jobs are at least halfway decent pay.
Benefits (if you qualify) are pretty good.
There are a handful of engineering jobs in the Wisconsin office that are well-paid and cutting-edge, however the leadership there is of very poor quality.
Cons – NEPOTISM is *rampant*, leading to many incompetent coworkers that are 'protected' because they either know someone or are related to someone. HR does nothing to mitigate this because they are some of the worst offenders.
Many higher-paying professional and management jobs are given as 'awards' (especially in IT and HR) for individuals that 'played along' with political cronyism. Result is that you have many employees in key roles that have no business being there and completely unqualified.
They have a crude 'continuous improvement' program that has prima donna leadership and stocked with 'award' positions that cause more interference with operations than any real improvement.
Curious amount of political infighting between inept executives results in many professional problems within departments and misadventures that adversely affect lower-level workers.
Chicago office in Rogers Park could be in a better neighborhood and difficult to get to.
Advice to Senior Management – LOL, don't bother if you know what's good for you.

Former Employee – worked at S&C Electric
Pros – The people at S&C are all very technically skilled. The communication within the teams is very good. There are cross functional teams. people from various engineering backgrounds work with each other. Innovation is a key feature in S&C. You will face new challenges everyday and there is little time to relax.
Cons – I am not sure if there is a training program for new hires

Former Employee – worked at S&C Electric
Pros – Work not required if you spend a couple of years in the company and play safe.
A couple of people were literally snorring in their cubicles on a daily basis.
Cons – The management closes eyes to cover themselves and hide real situation from the central management located far in Chicago, apparently unaware of what is going on at Alameda.
Good 'players' get salary raise and good performance eveluations while people who don't play the game get either fired or pushed to resign quickly.
Advice to Senior Management – stop looking for improvements while ignoring so many real work environment problems
find and apply effective solutions to problems and forget not to inform higher management about them
