I worked at SAIC full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Great benefits, great pay and people care about each other.

    Cons

This company should give more assistance to people that are losing coverage.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try harder to retain loyal employees by forming a group of people to assist employees that lose coverage to find another position with the company.

I have been working at SAIC full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Can't really think of any. They do, or did employ a lot of people so facilities are decent.

    Cons

Unless you have a full scope polygraph clearance, SAIC (now Leidos) won't have much opportunity for software engineers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Diversify your portfolio of work to include non-gov spaces.

Lots of opportunities to expand knowledge and experience.

Too locked into specific government customers, should try expanding into commercial market.
Wasting talent and resources on too restrictive of customer.

    Pros

Get to work with extremely talented people who's willing to help as much as they can. Never seen such synergy in the team compare to others. Everyone is a contributor. I realize getting into such a good group can be draw of the luck. During interview, she asked "Do you like being thrown in the volcano on your first day?" This group was known for being overtasked and a stressful environment but as said... it wasn't true at all. I really doubt I'd work with such talented team again in the future.

    Cons

I left a company for better pay and medical. SAIC Medical plan sucks! If SAIC manangement is reading this then change it ASAP! You say that it's a fair plan but it's not and you know it! You have the worst benefit compare to ANY company by far. I promise that more people will leave and more negative review will follow. If you ever want to join, make sure to bump $10k for sucky insurance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't mess with the medical. We all are raising a family and we deserve a fair plan with co-pay..not this ridiculous $3000 deductible, pay 20% of the bill instead of co-pay. I've been with many company and you guys are really screwing on family need... provide a decent medical.

I worked at SAIC full-time for more than a year

    Pros

free coffee/tea, flexible work schedule, workout room, fun team games, nice and friendly people

    Cons

retirement plans, lack of communication from management, lack of structured work environment, not a real business focus/mission

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It was an alright experience at SAIC. While I really enjoyed being around wonderful and nice people and nice perks including a company gym to work out, fun team games and flexible work schedule, I just found that it was not the right type of environment for my professional growth and success.

The work environment was quite loose. The work environment is not quite structured. The management team was quite hands off. There was no real communication and coodination from the management team. The management team needs a big improvement in their leadership and communication skills.

The company as a whole doesn't have one true business focus. It's like they are trying to be everything they can be to please their customers with so many different focuses and different business units. That's the downside.

    I worked at SAIC

    Pros

Large company that has many job opportunities around the country. However, much of the work is driven by the government contracts based on the customer you are working for.

    Cons

Right before Christmas I got a letter stating that I owe them close to a $1000 because they overpaid me in Comp. Leave. I always did my timesheet correctly so this was their payroll mistake. The money was due in 1 week or it increased. That is a limited amount of time to come up with a large sum of money like that.

Women - there is no maternity leave. Many other large government contracting companies have this. So if this is important to you, you may want to look at one of the other larger companies.
