Pros
I have worked with some really smart people - never had a "pointy-haired boss". The company is highly ethical. I enjoy working in the government space because I feel the work is highly important. There is far less "Dead wood" than I have experienced at other large integrators. It is generally professional and fair.
Cons
Limited notion of career path or career development. Acting too much like a big company these days (slow decision-making).
Advice to Senior Management
Be more bold in direction for the company in a tough market. Invest more in career path and career development.
Pros
Strong Technical Focus and solid profit numbers.
Cons
Not a lot of support after contracts run out.
Advice to Senior Management
Go for more commercial customers.
Pros
the insurance some workers ok to work with
Cons
bad management no ethics they are shinny on the outside but when you get inside bad
Advice to Senior Management
find your ethics and treat people like you want to be treated
Pros
Meeting and making new friends and contacts
Cons
If you're not at Corp, then it's any management still. If your manager is hired from EDS, NG, or any other company, that's the managemen style you get.
Advice to Senior Management
HR is usless outside Corp, Won't risk doing the right thing, even when they know the correct, ETHICAL thing to do.
Train Managers in the SAIC style...
Pros
Value staff potential, work ethics are great, treat people well
Cons
limited growth opportunities, too much central office controlled
Pros
Somewhat Flexible Schedules - Decent, not great, pay - Many locations and jobs if you have the required qualifications to get them
Cons
Minimal career mentoring opportunities - Bonus pool is shrinking fast and the criteria for earning bonuses is not shared with employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Sell this company as fast as you can. The stock is in the toilet and the dim hope of its recovery is probably the only reason there is anyone left.
Pros
It is in San Diego
Cons
Scientists with no people skills are promoted into management positions
Advice to Senior Management
Get rid of the "good ol' boy" culture
Pros
Customer exposure.
Good benefits.
Great managers.
Good pay.
Cons
Not enough custom hardware development.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work!
Pros
The benefits are excellent. The work is good. The opportunities to move are available.
Cons
Management loves you as long as the customer likes you and the contract is ongoing. When the contract ends so does your employment even though you are a "full time employee" of SAIC. Be prepared to treat this job as a job. Making a career at SAIC requires being in the executive management pool.
Advice to Senior Management
Start reducing the management overhead instead of the workers. There is no reason to have so many project managers of enduring or sustainment contracts when they can handle multiple contracts and reduce the overhead costs.
Pros
Serious about ethics
Competitive pay
Better than average benefits
Big enough company to allow for professional growth
Opportunities in multiple geographic locations
Cons
Company is not winning as many contracts as 5 years ago
Advice to Senior Management
Cut the high level management positions
Minimize feel good politically correct functions and programs
