Pros
Great pay and lots of fun.
Cons
There are no cons to working for SAP America.
Pros
Excellent pay for contract work
Flexible work schedule
Minimal direction or supervision so you take the lead on your projects (no micromanagement)
Ability to telecommute
Opinion is valued because you are consider the expert
Cons
This is a difficult section to complete because during my three year contract nothing negative comes to my mind. This section should be optional not mandatory.
Pros
Work-like balance isn't that bad as you are permitted time off when requested.Since SAP doesn't prime many projects there should be enough bench time to balance things out.
Really great Consultants that are true professionals that take pride in their work
If you enjoy travel then you will like this job. It was one of my favorite aspects and I was able to have projects in some really great locations. The job requires 100% travel so don't complain when you actually receive this. It is a condition of the job. If you hate traveling don't apply for this position.
Good Benefits
Cons
Upward mobility is severely limited for females. Management in some divisions is 100% male and do not care about the careers of women they manage.
Utilization targets are really important yet the Consultant has very little control over this. If you are on a bad team or have a bad manager you will have a lot of bench time. Any attempts to move to other departments to increase your utilization will be denied, thus stagnating your career and salary.
Compensation is no longer competitive the longer you stay with the company
The longer you stay the less management cares about you....hiring new employees is top priority. However, new employees will not be trained properly so they quickly turnover.
Very little diversity despite the propaganda campaigns stating otherwise. Diversity in SAP speak simply means hiring more men of various age ranges.
Nepotism is the key to having a great career....not talent
Management is notoriously ineffective and turnover is high. If you are unfortunate to have a bad manager (and many are) just resign to the fact that this is a job and not a career for you. You must have an advocate to have a career here.
Advice to Senior Management
Teach your managers how to manage.
Stop pretending that everyone receives equal treatment. Highly qualified women get passed over for promotions or other opportunities in favor of men that have been with the company 1/3 of the time.
Pros
Great Salary, Great benefits and paid time off.
Cons
SAP is a great company overall. However, if you are lucky to be in a department with good management. In my depratment, you are on your own! No support from management, heavy politics, unbelievably debilitating bureocracy, arrogance is resonating throughout the entire department, ni communication and it is hard to trust people. You spend half your time CYA. You are only as good as your last recent performance. Although Bill an\d Jim have created a great vision and people strategy, it does not propogate to all departments. In my department, management uses fear as performance leverage. SAD.
Advice to Senior Management
For long term sustainability of great talent, you must begin to truly execute the people strategy. Remember, an organization is only as good as how happy its employees are.
Pros
Lots of A-List players, best in the industry.
Cons
not too much tops down communication;
Advice to Senior Management
goals and performance management process lags as it to long cascade down management objectives.
Pros
Global company makes it easy to move horizontally or vertically and gain all sorts of varying experience.
Cons
Could be a bit more diverse in some areas.
Pros
Flexible and knowledgeable colleagues. There are a large number of projects going on at any time, and over time you get very good exposure to various aspects of the business space.
Cons
travel can sometimes get to you, need to find a way to work on balancing work and personal life. Overall, some of it comes with the job, so no complaints!
Advice to Senior Management
mostly good.
Pros
- Lots of Career advancement opportunities
- Big company with great work culture
- Lots of young and smart people
- Respect of each other
Cons
- Some of the products are not as competitive as others in the market
- Executive Leadership needs some fresh ideas on innovation on new technologies
- Customer spend too much and expect way too much from SAP...
Advice to Senior Management
- Need to justify past acquisitions where company spent billions of dollars
- Create an environment to nurture fresh ideas on innovation of end consumer centric products....
Pros
SAP has a good reputation for software.
Cons
Its a software company but I worked as a consultant
Pros
I'm a consultant who just loves doing consulting. At SAP America, consultants' careers can grow almost without any limits. You can go as high as you're willing to work to achieve. SAP really makes an effort to reward people who demonstrate talent and hard work. SAP consultants get to help SAP's customers, and mentor others in the consulting practice. Numerous opportunities are available for "training-up" on new skills, and for networking with colleagues of similar interests. SAP provides systems where you can try out their newest stuff. And I also have made good friends among my colleagues. Most of all, I enjoy the prestige that SAP consultants have earned. You're respected as being among the very best.
Cons
As a consultant at SAP, you travel a lot. Because of that, it requires effort to maintain a personal life.
Advice to Senior Management
I approve of SAP's approach to showing its employees that SAP is committed to them. You're doing a good job of getting the word out. Just keep up the good work.
