Developers lear a lot about software engineering but dont have opportunities to implement what they learned in the first few years at sap, many end up leaving to take more responsibilities

SAP Canada provides an excellent working environment, great perks (like free drinks and lunches) and a professional and respectful culture. Its HR and operations departments are second to none.

Cons

The technology stack that SAP as a whole uses is not in par with the best that you find in the industry. ABAP was abused beyond its intended purpose, and the systems developed at SAP are bloated and hard to work with. There's a lot of needless complexity and the developers have to solve many nasty little problems. It's hard to extend the internal frameworks and to create innovative features within their constraints.

Advice to Senior Management

Continue the great management work, but start to look at better tools and techniques on the technology side. Look at Eclipse for ABAP development, find out what software configuration management is, focus on simplicity.
