Pros
SAP Brand Name, a few SAP values transcend down to GD
Short term projects with high value customers
Cons
Body shopping rampant, managers more worried about billing and not about quality of projects
Senior management not competent
Pros
Solid company, safe, increasing sales despite economy, generous benefits, mutlinational experience, possibility for broad exposure to all kinds of technologies and product domains.
Cons
All decisions seem to be centralized in Walldorf and to a lesser extent Palo Alto. Product teams in satellite offices are rarely considered. Management team changes (departures or changing to other depts) constantly.
Pros
SAP is a very people-centric organization. Everybody at all levels of the organization treat one another with respect. SAP also encourages management to reward their people, and encourages peers to recognize each other. SAP has a good name, too, and so clients treat us with respect.
Also, I think it is very cool that we have co-CEOs. It is a big job, and I am glad we have a team at the top.
Cons
As a consultant, most of my interaction with SAP is remotely. Even after 5 years working at SAP, I still have trouble finding information when I need it. SAP tries very hard to communicate policies and provide good training, but it is hard to keep up with everything that is offered.
Another downside of working for SAP is that our hourly rates are higher than other consultants, which causes certain things to happen: sometimes the client will be inclined to bring you on as the only SAP employee on a project, and bring all other consultants from a partner or independent. The client does this so that SAP will have "skin in the game..." but still pay low rates for the majority of the team. Sometimes you discover that the other consultants have no real implementation experience, which can put you in a difficult political situation. Also, you are required to solve all of the toughest problems because you are considered to be the expert (a living-and-breathing-SAP-help-file). Your higher rate also means that the client will wait as long as possible before bringing you on and can be very picky about how many hours you work.
Advice to Senior Management
In reference to my comments above, it would be nice if SAP management would offer 2-consultants-for-the-price-of-1 in certain cases so that SAP consultants who are staff-augmenting can have an SAP colleague to work with.
Pros
-Ability to work international on projects/job opportunities
-Respected company amongst competitors and customers
-Smart people everywhere
-Strong pay/benefits.
-Subsidized lunches (basically free)…..Awesome!
Cons
Heavy on travel due to consulting/direct sales atmosphere
Advice to Senior Management
Keep it going! Look to expand deeper into data analytics and mass data storage.
All in all, you are doing a strong job. The Co-Ceo is the way to go!
Pros
SAP is world renowned global brand
Cons
Pay structure is not that great
Advice to Senior Management
Look for the right people in the Middle level management
Pros
Lots of brain power. True global approach. Nice people and working conditions.
Cons
Glass ceiling for middle management
Pros
Work life balance in middle management is good. More innovative today than SAP has ever been since ERP started. More pride now that SAP is one of world's top 25 brands (assessed by Interbrand). Communication getting better and feeling that Oracle whilst still strong has had its day
Cons
No work life balance in senior management - sometimes busy-ness and meetings take over and we lose touch with staff. Need closer ties across sales force and supporting teams.
Advice to Senior Management
Need to believe in Bill and Jim's inspiration and direction and remove cultural obstacles. Make tough changes with staff who don't believe in working with more passion and velocity. SAP is back so we must all lead and encourage leadership at every level
Pros
Working Moms are very well appreciated
Good Pay
Good Vacation Package
Cons
If you are looking for a place to have a professional growth in terms of becoming a manager this is not the best company to work with. They usually bring excecutives from the outside rarely develop people, even if you are a top performer
Advice to Senior Management
improve motivation and growth for employees.
Pros
great diversity, respect to each other's culture and different ideas.
opportunity to learn and explore other area if you are in the consulting
Cons
it offers relatively low salary as compared to market. Once the first contract is made, it's so difficult to raise salary despite high performance every year
Advice to Senior Management
more coordination is needed for the initiatives between groups. some teams are driving their idea and too many technology is used and invested.
Pros
Great people
Cafeteria on site
Low stress work environment
Cons
They are quick to cut interns and contractors
