Advice to Senior Management
To encourage new ideas from employees
Pros
-Treated with respect.
-Recognized as a knowledge worker and given an environment to pursue ideas
-Generally intelligent co-workers and gifted leaders
-Work/life balance the best bar none
-Leadership position around analytics allows for experimentation
Cons
-Flat organization leaves little room for growth
-Will never have the opprotunity to get rich like at other tech companies
-Low turnover has created a culture of cronyism, lack of accountability and low expectations from certain veterans.
Pros
Work life balance - 2 hours lunches and getting off at 530pm sharp
Cons
Resistant to change - prefer to stick to methoods used for the past 10 years
Bad management
HR doesn't do a good job to manage any politics, and boasts a high turn over rate of more than 30% for a company of less than 100 staff
Poor management of expectations
Job scope for any mid level staff is 80% admin
Advice to Senior Management
Be open to change
Communicate clearly to employees and manage expectations of other stakeholders better - Some communications are done better face to face rather than SMS and email
Pros
SAS heavily promotes work/life balance. SAS offers countless benefits (not just health insurance...) like aquatic center, onsite childcare, subsidized meals at the onsite cafes, gym, and list goes on and on and on.
Cons
It is difficult to take advantage of the countless benefits unless you're comfortable taking more time away from your work...which is hard to do. Opportunities for advancement are rare since employees rarely leave SAS to work elsewhere.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't hide from giving feedback positive or negative to your direct reports. If you want your team to improve, then you have to provide the feedback and guidance to make it happen. It is imperative that you lead by example and develop the people that work with and for you.
Pros
SAS Singapore has a cohesive and supportive working atmosphere. The different teams within the company are tightly knit and cross-departmental help and cooperation is often freely given.
Cons
One of the downsides of working at SAS institute is the admittedly average remuneration offered by the company. In addition, SAS traditionally does not hire fresh graduates as permanent staff, preferring to take them in as interns instead.
Advice to Senior Management
SAS Singapore could consider investing more in the training of its employees, as well as focus on nurturing collaboration and communication with the global offices.
Pros
SAS solutions and reputation.
Technology and market leader in the industry
Cons
SAS in Korea is just a sales office. Can't expect same as in Head quarter
Advice to Senior Management
Place sales first will burn people out
Pros
Work life balance, innovation bent work, Encouraging people woth great exp
Cons
Not so high pay as other product comps but surely good enough for people with money as not the only goal of life, promotion takes time, monetory benefits rare
Advice to Senior Management
Need a formal way to provide feedback for managers as well. Rest all Great!!
Pros
Good benefits.
It's a job.
Rare layoffs.
Cons
Depending upon where you are, you may get a supervisor and/or manager who has been there a very long time, and because of close ties to owners, they'll never leave, despite incompetency. You need to simply put up with the insanity. Also, some employees are highly competitive, even if that means leaving you in the dark about needed information or grabbing credit for work you've done.
Advice: Don't go to the on-site medical department if you value your privacy. Also know that everything you say will be later documented in your medical record, regardless of what it is or whether or not it has anything to do with anything. If they misunderstood something, they will argue with you rather than change the record.
Someone said elsewhere in reviews, "No one ever leaves." Believe me, they do.
Advice to Senior Management
Give hefty "early retirement packages" to selected managers. It will be worth every cent.
Pros
Great benefits and Excellent People in all areas of the company. You get the chance to meet with great customers and prospects and show them how to apply the technology to their business problems. The technology is so broad that there are a million ways to use it and to be innovative with it.
Cons
You're spoiled to work anywhere else, especially if you are working at the headquarters location.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work
