I have been working at SBI Capital Markets full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great learning experience with a plethora of assignments in Project Finance.
Good and informal office culture. Open doors policy mostly.
Big Brand - Leaders in Project Finance globally since 2009
Opportunity to work from origination to closure of an assignment unlike most other places where the job is done in silos.

    Cons

No clear HR Policy....keeps on changing every year. Promotions and increments at the whims and fancy of SBI without any roadmap.
Only a single product organization - Bank Loans whether Project Finance / Corporate Loans / Restructuring or Refinancing contributes to 90% of the organizations revenues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to lay out a clear policy on promotion.

    Pros

    - Learning beyond any expectations. No institution has this much of knowledge bank and promote learning at every level.
    - You get the chance to work with one of the biggest size projects in India and the one of the most reputed clients
    - You learn entire value chain of a project
    - If you are lucky to get a project from inception to operational stage or atleast at financial closure stage; you be sure that you are a pro now.

    Cons

    - The determination this institute demand the salary packages are least among competitors. Though, for this much learning no need to pay but we are working to get paid. On the other side, if the pay not be lesser than industry standard, believe me you guys didn't get the chance to get a interview calls because I might be still sitting in my chair.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - You guys are working perfectly fine and keep SBICAPS always on the top of syndicated loans PFI list.

    Pros

Client facing at lowest level; Good opp. to learn about infra sectors and lending; Brand value; Flat hierarchy; Stress free (you won't be laid off easily even if you don't work)

    Cons

Lowest Pay to Work load ratio; Unfair HR practices; Nil HR support; Bureaucratic; Learning stagnates after a while; limited opportunities/groups to work with (i.e. nil shuffling of profiles within the organization); Poor work culture; Like any organization, there are good and bad bosses... If your super boss / boss is non cooperative, leave the organization immediately, do not expect a change / HR support

Current Employee - Manager in Bangalore (India)

I have been working at SBI Capital Markets full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

One of the market leaders in debt arranging. Good exposure to banks. Preparation of information memorandum, excel modeling, and client facing activities are done by same team.

    Cons

    1. If you get in to the some teams, the assignments can be not so good or u may end up in a sector specialist team which has a very narrow applicability , for eg. ports.
    2. The bonus provided is not based on individual performance though it is seen so in the appraisal process. It is heavily inclined towards the income generated by your team which in turn is dependent on the assignment that your team has stumbled upon.
    3. Bonus for this year is provided in next year first quarter end. This will not come if u are in notice period.
    4. Long working hours, as it is a conventional system of working with the team leader sitting near to the team and directing what is to be done on a daily basis. Not an open culture.
    5. No personal support from SBI, no home loan/credit card, etc. A step motherly treatment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
