I worked at SCORE! Educational Centers full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Had a clear path on how to become a center director. Later on, the company restructured, so there were more specialized roles (marketing, sales). High school students were able to work flexible shifts. Coworkers were friendly and willing to help you out when needed. Lots of training in the beginning.

    Cons

    Low wages.
Not enough support in conducting grass roots marketing campaigns.
Personalized tutoring programs (not the computer one) were too expensive for the community to afford.

I worked at SCORE! Educational Centers part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

They're willing to hire anyone and train them to do the job. For most high school students or those looking for a first job, this is one of the few options available

    Cons

Frequently understaffed, low wages and insufficient training. No really education happens, we just plop the kids in front of a computer and let them do their thing.

    Pros

They were willing to hire someone with very little experience, and train me.

    Cons

They had a strange management system, and made us high five the students a least x amount of times in x amount of hours.

I worked at SCORE! Educational Centers full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of room for professional development; Great interfacing with families and product; Learned to soft sell and hard sell in an environment that was almost impossible to ruin. Direct to client sales skills development. Fun to work with lots of young people.

    Cons

No career path; Not a lot of guidance from senior management on what constituted a "good experience"; over emphasis on revenue without emphasis on training or product knowledge. Cash became king, and employees were driven to do whatever it took, which clearly hurt clint relationships.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Investing in high value, high cost, high quality people and paying them what they were worth would have helped float the company.

I have been working at SCORE! Educational Centers

    Pros

If you wanted to be a teacher, then it's a great place to work. You get a lot of interaction with kids. Learn how to manage time with kids

    Cons

There isn't much opportunity for growth in the company that is offered to its tutors. Its just tutoring. That's pretty much it.
