    Pros

The company does great things for the community as far as volunteering. Their public image is important to them.

    Cons

They spend a lot of money on things that make them look good to the pubic. But they are slowly taking away the profit sharing. They will make you all kinds of promises but never deliver on the them (future promotions, pay increases, etc.). There's a lot of favoritism and harassment in some departments, which must be ok with management, because they are well aware of it but do nothing to stop it. Speaking of management - top and middle heavy.

    Advice to Management

Treat everyone equally. Don't allow, or be part of, harassment and favoritism. Make people accountable for their actions.

    Pros

    Proactive HR initiatives. Family oriented.

    Cons

Management allows personal agendas and backstabbing to occur that can undermine strategic and operational plans. This company always trashes ex-employees even if they were superior performers.

    Advice to Management

Do not allow personal agendas to overtly influence business decisions. Be genuine.

    Cons

To top management heavy. Computer issues always.

    Advice to Management

Need to see who are in your higher positions. Not sure all get big picture.

  5. Management is supposed to be there to support you and foster career growth--SECURA prefers the exact opposite.

    Pros

Fitness center, on site cafeteria, flexible scheduling, and friendly co-workers. They have a competitive pay scale and provide decent benefits for their employees.

    Cons

If you are not immediately picked as a chosen future leader within the first 1-2 months after your hire, you will not advance as promised. There are some supervisors in claims who not only have no idea about the subject matter that they preside over, but also enjoy intimidating their direct reports. There is a supervisor in Workers Compensation who has only been there for 3-4 years, but has fired at least 6-7 people--and many others have left the department because of her. Her leadership skills are non-existent and the morale in this department is a reflection of her.

    Advice to Management

Begin to critically examine your own management team and seek to constantly improve that. You shouldn't have to lose 50% of a department before you realize that the person in charge isn't suited for the role that they are in.

    Pros

Nice amenities: fitness center, walking path, cafe. Abundant volunteer opportunities: blood donations, elementary student tutoring, marathon help. Charitable contributions deducted directly from your paychecks.

    Cons

Greed trumps ethics, every time. Narcissism trumps honesty, every time. Back stabbing trumps communication, every time. And lies trump accountability, every time.

    Advice to Management

Ask yourself why the smallest department has the biggest turnover. Hint: it's your leadership.

    Pros

Some of upper management is genuine, caring, and approachable. There are some standout people at Secura.

    Cons

Much of the management structure is inexperienced in the technical details of the departments that they lead. Instead of trusting associates to make the right decisions and leaning on the experience of their direct reports, management sees knowledge as a threat and actively seeks ways to undermine and intimidate those people (yes, workers comp I am looking your way). Working in departments like these are demoralizing. It wasn't until I left Secura that I realized how backwards they are.

    Advice to Management

Clean your house, rethink your values. Your employees make your company who you are, not yourselves.

    Pros

The building and grounds are always immaculate, there is an onsite cafe and fitness center, and most of the associates are friendly.

    Cons

Leadership is top heavy and self serving. Company employs a strict corporate parenting model and is entrenched in 110+ years of progressive dysfunction. Promises are made with ease, as there is no intent to deliver on them.

    Advice to Management

Demand a refund from whomever added straight speaking and forward thinking to your brand.

    Pros

The company treats its employees very well. Benefits are very good and it is a friendly work environment. People who work hard are rewarded.

    Cons

The ability for mediocre employees to hang around for decades. While not necessarily a bad thing, there are a lot of people who are merely punching a clock and don't have high aspirations.

    Pros

Family friendly, great soft skills training, opportunities for advancement, executive management team is approachable and down-to-earth, excellent on-site cafeteria, involved in the community, on-site fitness center with personal trainer and exercise classes including yoga, Spin, and Zumba.

    Cons

Departments are "silo"ed, small cubicles, inadequate parking space for size of building, meager profit sharing plan, work-from-home options are frustrating due to security policies.
