    Pros

Great company to work for if you are ambitious and want to learn. If you want to learn a task beyond your immediate job scope, all you need to do is ask the right person.

    Cons

Open environment is a double edge sword. Accessibility to people is readily available, however, can tend to be noisy.

I worked at SEI Investments full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Social work culture, art-filled environment, gym, good work-life balance, tuition assistance program

    Cons

Open office environment, low pay, redundant work, political, cliquey, unprofessional, almost too laid back

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Good place to gain experience right out of college if you exhaust all other options due to very low pay. Work is routine and redundant and can be boring but on site facilities and 100% tuition assistance with one year pay back are advantages. Don't stay doing the same type of work here for more than a couple years, transfer out of the company for bigger pay raise.

I have been working at SEI Investments full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The perks of SEI are a flexible work schedule and conveniences like a cafeteria, ATM, dry cleaning, car maintenance arrangement, lots of amenities on campus.

    Cons

Some cons are the lack of leadership, weak management, arbitrary and reactionary decisions by management, lack of discipline in doing analysis and forming logical conclusions before jumping in new directions. Lack of focus on quality and measurements in the software development and release cycles.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider a disciplined approach to quality measurement. Increase the qualify before focusing on bringing more clients onto the Platform. Spend money on quality resources where there's an obvious need.

    Pros

Great starter company for fresh graduates

    Cons

IMS department does not provide growth opportunities they lure in with, so much gossiping and politicing, everyone acts like they are in high school

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat analysts with more respect, they are people too, be more respectful of people and clients. Grow up.

I have been working at SEI Investments as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

A lot of very smart people work for SEI who are willing to help you. Indoor gym and lockers, passable cafeteria.

    Cons

Technologically behind the times. Software development community inundated with heavy process and procedure making achievement difficult. Modified Agile process than smells a lot like waterfall. Company uses off shore resources and a lot of junior programmers. Code bloat is rampant. Development tools are spartan - Java 6 development on Windows XP desktops. Repository for source code is an antiquated Borland product (StarTeam). Software architecture a hodge podge of old technologies and old patterns. UI developed with older version of struts or naked JSP's. New equipment is rare. Work from home not always available to employees or contractors. Management less concerned with productivity of developers - they are seen as a cost.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest more in your development teams and environment. Lighten up on the process.
