    Pros

Great Opportunity and work for financial and IT professionals to do great work on an up and coming investment management platform.

    Cons

Platform is still in its infancy and needs alot of work. But that can be a pro for someone who is looking to make a difference.

Current Employee - Member of the Technical Staff in Pittsburgh, PA

I have been working at SEI full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Work-life balance isn't too bad. There are the great benefits and perks of being a university employee. It's a cheap way to get a CMU degree.

    Cons

New ideas are almost immediately killed. Everything is driven by funding and the business developers that get the funding are not incentivized to get new funding streams or to be proactive or creative in any way. Management above the team level is an old boys club. There is little to no diversity (even for this industry). There is a terrible career path. The pay is bad and raises are hard to come by. There is little incentive to produce good or meaningful results. The morale of the staff is generally bad.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop lying to your employees' faces for starters.

Current Employee - Project Manager in Oaks, PA

I have been working at SEI full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Flexibility, can usually come and go whenever, mostly nice people

    Cons

No direction. Manual processes everywhere and it is surprising anything gets done, low workload so easy to get bored, lack of communication from management and sometimes even lack of management skills for the directors and other leaders. No idea of career progression, what salaries are, etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn how to communicate, provide some training, provide career paths or at least let people know if a job is a promotion or a decrease

Current Contractor - Anonymous Contractor in Oaks, PA

I have been working at SEI as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

Consultants are treated almost as well as employees and have use of some employee perks.

    Cons

Documentation for projects not well done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management could take more interest in what is really going on and help out a lot more. As with all large companies, some teams are great and some are not so good. Different management styes. Management training would be helpful.

I have been working at SEI full-time

    Pros

    Great people/managers.
    Interesting atmosphere with "art" everywhere.
Great first job out of college

    Cons

Coming from a job that was paying close to 50,000 to 38,000 is a big lifestyle change. My first week was overwhelming very little formal training and expectation to understand a dinosaur of a computer program ASAP.
If they were paying me the average for a mutual fund analyst at other big companies I would be super happy. Lack of fair salary/benefits( 60% of your annual salary than match 5 % which comes out to being $4-600 a company match)Money taints what could be an incredible expereince.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay us! The Economy has entry level employees competing for the same jobs/salary as a 3-5 year exp employee. Not allowing/encouraging OT to make up the difference takes the drive out of people!
