I have been working at SEIU Local 32BJ full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great family health benefits, still get a pension.

    Cons

No clear path for movement, no maternity/paternity leave, no comp time

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

As a labor union, should definitely think about how to make a fair workplace. Should not take 20 people at a staff meeting to ask questions about sexual harassment for organization to recognize that they need to address culture of harassment.

I have been working at SEIU Local 32BJ full-time for less than a year

    Pros

I think the benefits are amazing, and the quality of life is pretty good as well. Management is fairly flexible, and take subordinate input into account in their decision-making processes.

    Cons

It's a large organization, so there's the inevitable lag in getting things done, but that's not any different from working at Microsoft or Apple or anywhere else.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think that management can be a bit more flexible, but all in all, I think this is a wonderful place to work, and I greatly enjoy working here.

I have been working at SEIU Local 32BJ full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great benefits, time off, very flexible with your schedule. Great support staff and sense of community amongst the support staff. Decent salary given the economy.

    Cons

Where do I begin. Support staff is not treated well or fairly. Staff is spoken to very poorly and disrespected by senior staff. Management do not promote from within although it all seems that way.. Smoke and mirrors. Some (not all) staff treat the Members like they are scum of the earth. Very passive when it comes to dealing with disagreements in the work place. Management is biased and always leans toward senior level staff. Management is out of touch with how their office really runs. The list can go on and on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    -be fair.
    -Promote from within
-stop allowing your staff to be treated poorly by other employees/senior staff
    -stop treating your staff poorly
-stop allowing your upper level staff to be disrespectful to its members.
-HR should look into how the staff is being treated. And find a way for employees to complain anonymously.
