    SEO Incs' Back

    Brand Specialist (Current Employee)

Pros-Friendly Environment - A lot more Management/Employee outings and social events.
-Open and Collaborative, there are talented and very knowledgeable people here with over 60+years combined SEO/Internet marketing experience.
-Challenging and Great to learn. The work at times can be intense, but knowing you have other teammates to help is great. Again this point somewhat inherits the collaborative comment that people are available and ready to help when problems arise.
Desire to be the Best- Though this may seem obvious, but everyone at SEO Inc desires to be the best Internet Marketing Agency experts around.

ConsMiscommunication-Maybe one of the biggest problem here at SEO Inc, though it is very collaborative-it can be hectic, we do not lay on management for direction on every call-we are given the opportunity here to be our own industry leaders and leaders in our roles, so it may become overwhelming and sometimes so many people are working on such assortment of projects that some become unaware of who is doing what.

Advice to Senior ManagementLet the Team know how much they really matter, though our CEO does his best at running the company and not boosting our egos 24/7-it still should have some attention it is still an essential part of being one of the most successful business' for you industry/space.

A good learning experience and a place to grow your knowledge.

    Manager (Former Employee)
    Carlsbad, CA

Pros- Good training guides and attention to detail by employees here.
    - Great attitude of workers in the office all there for the good of the company, for the most part.
    - Micromanagement is at a minimum.
    - Flexible schedule and understanding from management when time needs to be taken off.
    - Ping pong and foosball tables make for a nice relaxation method between meetings and long durations at your desk.

    Cons- Compensation could be better
    - Lack of a clearly defined roles for some employees allows for work to slip between the cracks.
    - Communication between departments could be better.
    - Could use a vending machine and some more little perks like that.

Advice to Senior Management- Invest what you can in the employees. Small changes = big morale improvements.

Company is hated by their unfortunate clients

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsIf you want to eventually start your own scam - type business, this is the ideal learning environment. The first thing that struck me is the degree to which they scam their clients. Seo for client accounts is a matter of the blind leading the blind. Their time seems to be spent reassuring clients for the sole purpose of keeping the money flowing.

ConsThe is a corrupt, horrible company.

Advice to Senior ManagementClose the door and start a lemonade stand. At least you stand a chance of delivering something for the money you take in.

    A Semi Functioning Contradiction

    Account Manager (Former Employee)
    Carlsbad, CA

    ProsLenient work hours
    Good PTO
    Decent Healthcare w/ Contributions
    Company Happy Hours
    Scooters in Office.

ConsAs the title implies, this company is a giant contradiction. Everything from the owner down to the services they offer. There are a lot of empty promises and not a lot of action. At least once a week you will hear about "big deals" coming "next week" that never appear. They will spend on useless toys, but not invest in their employees.

At one time this company was a reputable SEO company, now they are a shadow of what it use to be. Shouldn't an SEO company at least rank in Google?

The turn over is very high and you have have young account managers that don't really know a thing about SEO. Really they just have their assistants, aka "coordinators" do the work for them. Coordinators that have 0-2 months experience.

PPC is run by one or two guys, at most, again with minimal experience. Most of the work is usually outsourced to foreign freelancers anyways.

If you work here, expect to be paid at least 30% below the industry average for your position. Unless your family, then you will get 200% above. There is zero chance of raises and the only way you will get a title promotion is if your the only one left in your department.

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest in your employees and pay them what they are worth. Ownership needs to stop being a walking contradiction. Talk to your employees and really listen to what they're saying. The smile, nod, agree, and then forget method isn't cutting it. It always seems there is money issues, hiring an accountant would probably be a smart move.

A good place to grow your expertise and get ahead in the digital marketing world.

    Account Manager (Current Employee)
    San Diego, CA

    ProsFun work environment.
    Talented and smart coworkers.
Everyone works hard to fulfill client needs.
Lots of support from fellow employees on all levels.
Open-minded about change within the company.
Somewhat flexible with time off and needing to maybe clock in or clock out a bit early.
The ping pong and foosball tables are a nice touch.

ConsA few growing pains happening within the company, and there is some more need to roles to be better defined.

Advice to Senior ManagementWhen employees go above and beyond, recognize the accomplishments and reward accordingly.

    Poor Management and Corporate Structure

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Carlsbad, CA

ProsThere is a lot to be learned from the senior team who has left and is a good example of what not to do within an organization.

    ConsWorkflow was large
    Pay was below average
No incentives or bonuses for performance
    Company morale was low
    Office was deteriorating
No company culture (no snacks, barely coffee, no happy hours, etc)
    Turn over is extremely high.
Financial Aspects of the company are not shared and the money-flow is "sketchy"

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest in talent and even if you go with an entry level individual make the office environment and company culture a place they want to come to everyday. Reward your employees for great work and train them to improve their current position. Don't let the employment become stagnant.

Waste of time unless you can't find real work- KEEP OFF YOUR RESUME

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsLong term employees were very savvy and did their best to handle the load. Company attracted some loyal and hardworking project managers.

ConsEveryone else was either new and untrained, or at the unpaid intern level. The support and training is weak or non-existent due to the above factors. Company materials and documentation is all over the board. CEO , Garry Grant repeatedly makes bombastic claims and then reverses course on commitments. At one time, he clearly had niche expertise but he's been out of the loop for too long. He is a great presenter in terms of personal charisma, but when not it comes to the expertise . Process control is lacking. They are barely hanging on to long time clients to keep the lights on. Turnover will definitely cause lack of quality for new and older clients.

Advice to Senior ManagementStep out of the loop and get professional management before you lose the last clientele and employees. Invest back in the company and keep the family at home.

    Run!

SEO and Social Media (Former Employee)
    Carlsbad, CA

    ProsPossibly gain some experience
Helps you to develop a thick skin
Flexibility due to lack of management
    Allowed to listen to music
Occasionally drinks will be paid for at happy hours

ConsThere was a time when SEO Inc. was a well-respected SEO agency. Those days are long gone due to the CEO’s (Garry Grant) lack of respect for employees, vision and work ethic. If he had spent less money (company’s money) and time on his house and racing cars, and instead focused on the business and his hard working team, SEO Inc. might have had a chance.

    - No leadership
    - No training
    - No incentives
    - Health Benefits are so so
    - Low compensation
    - Project Managers are given more clients then they can handle - anywhere from 15 to 25 per PM
    - CEO makes false promises to clients. Makes grand promises and charges top dollar. When expectations can't be met, he blames it on the employee/PM
    - Extremely HIGH turnover
    - The office smells terrible
    - CEO is extremely unprofessional
    - The office is extremely dirty
    - CEO’s unqualified family members are hired as he does not want to spend the money to get experienced individuals.
    - No food or snacks provided
    - Company meetings are a joke
    - Hard work is not rewarded
    - Employees usually pay for themselves at company events and happy hours

Advice to Senior Management- Learn how to run an honest business and how to reinvest into the company and not frivolously spend on personal items.
    - Care about the people who work for you.

Good for experience-- bad for growth.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

    Pros-Lenient hours
    -Lenient holiday time and PTO

Cons-CEO has no idea how to run a company
-CFO has no idea how to manage money
-Sales has no idea how to properly sell a contract that could be delivered on
-Paychecks frequently bounced or were not given at all

Advice to Senior ManagementGarry Grant needs to either hand over the reins to someone who won't spend all the company's money in Vegas or racing his "company cars", or just shut it down altogether.

If that doesn't happen, TRAINING needs to happen. Account managers are given accounts and told to deal with them, with no training or guidance whatsoever. Interns are allowed to run amok, and account managers who get too comfortable with their positions seem to think that being disrespectful and controlling is a good way to get ahead.

Get an HR department. Use it.

    Cut off Garry's spending. Entirely.

Stop allowing paychecks to bounce because of "insufficient funds".

This is a good place to bolster your resume and get an example of what not to do with a marketing company. I feel badly for the good employees there, as well as the good clients. Get your experience and get out.

SEO Inc is HORRIBLE. Clients & employees beware!

    Project Manager (Current Employee)
    Carlsbad, CA

ProsThey'll hire entry-levels and take on a lot of interns, so it can be a good launching point (though that was a positive of the company years ago).

ConsWhere to start... this company used to be a reputable SEO agency with a solid team that created real results for their clients. That was years ago, before the owner decided leave and drain the company of money. Over the last few years, employees have been heavily taken advantage of- poorly compensated, overworked, and given no leadership. Many of the employees remained very loyal for many years, but recently even they have all left, leaving clients to the care of interns and the HR-person-turned-SEO-Project-Manager. Yikes! I feel for any existing or prospective clients of this company. Avoid at all cost!

Advice to Senior ManagementHire quality leadership and team members (at appropriate salaries) to run the company or just close the doors.
