    Pros

Able to work plenty of OT

    Cons

When something goes wrong HR doesnt investigate thoroughly. Someone brings false evidence, they fall for it.

I have been working at SERV full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

It has been a good experience, coming straight out of college. It has definitely helped strengthen myself and my knowledge in the field. They do promote within and a ton of overtime possibilities. The bonus was great!

    Cons

Sometimes you're left alone with 3+ residents, if you're working in a group home. Which is fine...after you've been working there a while or if you came in with experience. Supervisors aren't always aware of everything going on. One staff member was left working by herself in a group home, her first job out of college and in the field, for almost three months, until the Director caught wind of it and insisted other supervisors send in their extra staff to help out. Counselors are told that since they're with the residents 24/7, they are the most important when it comes to discussing their progress. But it's very seldom that you actually feel heard. Nothing is really done when residents do not follow through with their responsibilities, they rely on "natural consequences." Staff is expected to clean the house when the residents do not. Sometimes it feels like you're providing more cleaning services then actual counseling. Finally, and probably the most important factor at SERV, there are no such things as "raises." So your pay stays the same regardless of seniority, which to my knowledge only began a few years ago, as there are some counselors who have been there for 5+ years and use to receive raises.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your counselors more and make them feel like their voice is important and don't shoot them down when they make suggestions. Don't let the residents get away with so much, without any repercussions. How will they learn to succeed on their own, if they are shown that there are no consequences for their actions? Make sure that everyone is doing their fair share of the work. Many times I saw RPM's lacking on their duties and it falling on to the shoulders of the senior counselors. Which then trickled down to the residential counselor. Oh, and pay more!

I have been working at SERV full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Some of the people who work here are wonderful individuals, you get okay benefits, and some of the clients just make it all worth while,

    Cons

The management and clinical staff are impossible in most cases, you get treated very poorly, you don't make very much, the facilities are not in great condition, it is a very sad place to work

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on keeping the staff you have rather than hiring hundreds of people every month. Take that money from training and spend it on your clients

I worked at SERV full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The experience in behavioral health here is really good. It helped me realize what I did NOT want to do. Great to interact with the client's in their homes and assist them with daily living skills.

    Cons

Administrative/Clinical staff treat you as if your "the help", and do not respect or honor your opinion majority of the time as it relates to client's. The compensation for the amount of work that you do is not up to par, especially when neighboring agencies offer double. Poor management, no follow-up from payroll, no responses in emails.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take more time out to be considerate of the staff that you have. I am pretty sure half of you would not want to be seen doing what we do there!

    Pros

Great learning experiences. Company likes to promote from within so you can work your way up.

    Cons

The pay isn't the greatest and in some circumstances, schedules aren't flexible (for group home counselors).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to accommodate counselors who are trying to go to school.

Highly stressful and the company puts you at great risk because very often you are the only staff on duty supervising residents.
