I have been working at SET Environmental full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Strong ethics, committed to doing the right thing. Very safety oriented. There are many opportunities to make a difference for problem solvers. SET promotes from within and loves to find people willing to step up and move up.

    Cons

Can be sticklers for time off, hours worked. Management policies tend to be oriented toward the hourly employee.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Understand that we are a full-service vendor and that some services we currently provide fall outside our core business. Value-added features are all very well, but should be fairly compensated.

    I worked at SET Environmental

    Pros

when the opportunity to work is there, it's ample but that is not always the case.

    Cons

Being on call instead of working like a normal job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Visit other locations and get input from employees on how to get more work.

I have been working at SET Environmental full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Plenty of upward mobility for those who put in the effort and have the business skills to excel. Opportunities to transfer to other locations, often for a higher position and more money. Very nice owners, great President. Good insurance, flexibility when family matters arise. Great customers and business continues steady growth.

    Cons

Leadership not always on same page, mixed messages tell this. Because it's family owned expect the family members to have more pull and special treatment. Nepotism runs abound. Day after thanksgiving is not a holiday, no 401K match.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate more openly to the employees and more frequently. I have seen improvement in the last year but plenty more needed. Compensate those who are very important to the organization better -- before they have to ask for it or risk their departure.

I have been working at SET Environmental full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

They offer an atmosphere of collaboration and teamwork with little micromanagement. The company is growing, but at a maintainable rate where you don't lose sight of the quality and core values like some others have. Excellent pay in most areas and management is trying to initiate a training plan to include everyone, including office personnel.

    Cons

Some areas of pay are below market level. If you are someone that needs to constantly be told what to do, it's probably not the company for you. Upper management and HR need to realize that divisions need more help in the area of recruitment of good quality employees. You can only depend on your employees with full time jobs of their own to do so much.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to focus on training, add more emphasis to HR assisting with the recruitment efforts, and do market studies on the positions that you pay below market, then fix it.

I worked at SET Environmental full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Everyone is very nice, well mannered, facility is well set-up, breaks are frequent and well deserved. Everyone knows their job and does it without hesitation.

    Cons

Dangerous! Near miss reports were ignored and there was a chemical leak in the locker-room dripping caustic liquid. Left due to safety concerns. Staff is underpaid for the Houston area, although the work is less strenuous than would be elsewhere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When a near miss is filed, it is crucial to act on the report in a timely manner. Not after two near misses and a possible explosion. This type of mishap does not create the type of environment that anyone would be wanting to working in.

Management in place is excellent however work conditions are harsh and the salary is not worth the risks involved.

I have been working at SET Environmental full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Management staff is excellent for each department and they value input on safety concerns as well as suggestions for improving the workplace.

Provide on the job training and any tools the employee feels necessary to complete the job safely and effectively are provided.

    Cons

Long work days and mandatory overtime are the company culture so it is difficult to have a life outside of work.

Conditions are harsh (exposed to the elements at all times as there is no climate control in the warehouse). The vermiculite dust that is used to package the drums permeates the air (no air filtration system in the warehouse). A lot of the generators improperly package the chemicals leading to spills inside the drums ( suggest always wear your respirator when depacking).

Pay/salary is not nearly enough for the risk involved with handling these chemicals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in expanding your storage space and creating separate spaces for the departments as soon as possible with at least air purifying systems in place. Consider increasing the workforce so that your employees don't have to work mandatory overtime to accomplish the necessary amount of production.

I worked at SET Environmental full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

If you want to Make a good salary, this is the place to work. Great inside advancements. Benefits were above the industry norm. Upper management would make sure you had access to any and all materials and equipment needed to SAFELY do your job and never question it.

    Cons

Family issues were often ignored. Vacations were, at times, rejected. When you did travel, you were told when you were going to be home and it was always a later date.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep your number one asset happy........your employees

I worked at SET Environmental full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Has the money and resources to offer you training in many areas of environmental remediation as well as waste and chemical management.

    Cons

Does not really care for the employees; Is a reactive company not a proactive company; will take shortcuts if needed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get people in place who are knowledgeable, like the head chemist in Houston or the head of the waste facility in Houston.
