Was an interesting experience; hope the liferaft stays afloat for those that remain.

I worked at SEVEN Networks full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Very smart team members.
Comfortable work/life balance, even with on-call.

    Cons

Stayed too focused on pleasing one potential customer who just moved milestones/goalposts on the company.
Arrived at deciding to branch into apps far too late in the development cycle.
Lots of double-speak from certain mgmt. types (saying one thing to one group, and something else to another).

    Pros

Technically challenging and interesting work, good solution to challenges facing wireless operators

    Cons

Lack of recognition for many/most employees, Not able to succesfully develop a path to product sales/revenues

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you believe that the people are the most valuable resource (as I've heard been said), then you should act like it and take tangible steps to demonstrate this.

I worked at SEVEN Networks full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Work was constant and challenging. Everyone there was a pleasure to work with and management treated the employees incredibly well. I have never been at a job where I had seen zero conflict with anybody and everybody. Open schedule and work from home was allowed.

    Cons

The company is short sighted in business decisions. there were plenty of opportunities where the company could capitalize on the products being developed. The Board instead kept putting all of their eggs in one basket. This is a major fault and could cause the end of this company

    Pros

Great team dynamics, Lots of learning opportunities, great growth space.

    Cons

Operated on a reactive basis per Management. Many sharp turns rather then smooth curves. Constant requests to devote more resources to a process rather then developing more efficient processes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend more time actually planning in one meeting rather then having a planning meeting every day.

I worked at SEVEN Networks full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Many growth opportunities and the ability to learn many different roles and responsibilities.

    Cons

Most decisions are reactive and the atmosphere is always tense. Resources are not as appreciated as they should be with the seemingly expected personal sacrifices that must be made.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In a quick-changing industry it is difficult to predict the future, but any attempts to be more proactive would significantly reduce the level of tension and stress. Also, being more attuned to a healthy work/life balance would greatly increase employee retention.

I have been working at SEVEN Networks

    Pros

Innovation - always trying to turn the business around
They have old technologies and legacy business that is keeping the company alive
Trying to innovate again and re-invent, but not sure if they will succeed

    Cons

Constant downsizing - you never know when your job might end
They manage the layoffs in a shady way - identical to the lack of communication from the top
The CEO is known for always cutting costs. They have moved many jobs to Estonia and China
Very political and top-down management environment -do not believe their claim as a start-up
