ProsGreat place to learn office politics. Top done decision making. Process driven environment. Awesome work environment for French. Always look toward Paris for directions

ConsYou will know less (technologies) the day you leave vs the day you join

Advice to Senior ManagementWith decision making power requires responsibilities owning the outcomes and downfalls.

Commando Middle office

Commando Middle Office (Current Employee)
New York, NY

I have been working at SG CIB as an intern for less than a year

ProsBig group, quite multicultural but half French, several advantages in New York city museums.
The atmosphere is good and people quite talkative, wich is good when you are an intern to discover how things work in such a bank.

ConsThe emboarding process is quite long and a lot of things in New York depends to people in France or Bangalore's initiative, sometimes afternoons are lost because people have to wait for the morrow to work with them.

Great place to start your career out of college

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at SG CIB

Pros- Small teams that give access to experienced senior leaders
- If you get placed in the right team you will have a lot of modeling experience
- Very supportive environment
- Better hours than what you can expect at a bulge bracket bank

Cons- Can be placed into niche product team, which makes it harder to keep your option open early in your career

Smart people, poor politics

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
La Défense (France)

I worked at SG CIB as an intern for more than a year

ProsYou learn a lot by working in the Markets division.
Good work conditions.

ConsAs in every small universe, politics and a hint of luck are crucial for pushing your ideas forward and making your work noticed by the big bosses.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire the interns and don't just replace them - some of the ones I saw really deserved it

Stuck in a rut

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at SG CIB full-time for less than a year

Pros-Relaxed hours/lifestyle compared to other banks

Cons-No job prospects for juniors - very high turnover of interns/VIEs
-Majority of junior staff searching/interviewing at other frims
-HR massively detached from the business itself
-Lack of top tier status
-Very big bias towards French speakers which can be both annoying and frustrating
-Uncertain future in some cases

Advice to Senior ManagementRespect juniors more and actually give them a chance- they are the future of the bank. Also, your attempt to change the all "French" image of the bank doesn't seem to be working that well.

Stable but not dynamic

Director (Former Employee)
Paris (France)

I worked at SG CIB full-time for more than 3 years

ProsLarge network and industry expertise, large international presence in a variety of emerging markets focused on commercial banking services.

ConsDifficult to advance or move laterally. Lack of integration internationally with local offices, focused more on commercial than investment banking. Matrix structure made it difficult to work, a lot of competition internally for clients and projects.

Advice to Senior ManagementDetermine your true mission and purpose, state it honestly and stick to it.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
