Awful experience - Management hires relatives as direct reports

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Redmond, WA

ProsLarge global capacities with focus on technical expertise.

ConsManagement was allowed to have spouses, relatives and close friends as direct reports. This was NOT conducive to a healthy work environment unless, of course you were a relative, spouse or close personal friend. These related employee's were protected at all costs no matter the mistakes that were costing the reputation of the company and profit margins that could have been increased instead of decreased.

Advice to Senior ManagementLook closely........anonymous polls may help but the problem may stem from the top up. Your company will continue to loose business when un-related employees are forced out.

Schawk may be on the verge of greatness, depending on how Sr. and Executive management handle the change.

ConsTheir IT is outsourced and they can't help with multiple internal programs
Most of their executive team is not on the same page
They are slow to make executive d senior andecisions

    Great place to work-great people

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Atlanta, GA

ProsGreat work life balance and enjoyable clients to service. Well respected within the advertising industry and globally with potential clients.

ConsThis agency needs to expand to the digital arena to remain competitive and offer clients email, web, social media, and database management options.

Good Employees but Toxic work environment

Graphic Designer (Current Employee) Atlanta, GA

ProsThe employees are really smart and know what they are doing. The staff is very talented and creative. The benefits package is also very good.

ConsManagement does not have a clue what we do. Morale is very low and there are rarely ever any moments of celebration. Layoffs are frequent and we are never really told why, other than to save money. Compensation is way below average and the raises are non-existent. We are always told retaining employees and career advancement are a priority but since it never done, it is just lip service.

Advice to Senior ManagementYour people are your company. I know you need your clients but without your employees, you would not be who you are. Treat your people with more respect and really look at your compensation options. Reward your employees for their hard work and dedication. You will have a much happier and dedicated workforce for it.

    Disappointing

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Chicago, IL

Pros-Benefits package was very generous and reasonably priced.
-Chicago location is a really easy commute in a fun part of the city.

    Cons-Management is very under trained.
-Many managers are more interested in telling the teams how much they messed up instead of identifying areas where the team excelled.
-Overall moral is low due to frequent layoffs.
    -No work life balance.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou have good employees. You need to treat them well. Show them that you appreciate them by giving raises and paying them what they are worth. There needs to be a work/life balance. Remember your employees are not slaves. They are human beings with families and lives outside of Schawk.

    Disappointing

Production Artist (Current Employee) Omaha, NE

    ProsGood Wage
    Good Insurance
Good Benefits (Dental, Vision, Life, Health)

    ConsLayoffs
    Downsizing
    Outsourcing
    Powerlessness
Sense of Failure despite your best efforts and hard work

Advice to Senior ManagementChange just for change’s sake will never benefit you. Why lay off trained, experienced onsite workers to hire new, inexperienced workers a few hundred miles away? This IS the age of connectivity, no matter where the location. You throw away talent, loyalty and experience for uncertainty at best. This company has too much personnel churn and too little respect for American workers and their reasons for working for you.

Professionally Toxic. Take the job if you need it, but do not slow your job search.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Atlanta, GA

ProsInteresting high profile projects and clients, good working/professional relationships with other non-management employees, well maintained and updated equipment and computers, good onsite IT support, flex time schedule needed to cope with Atlanta's traffic.

ConsPromotions/ opportunities for advancement almost non-existant, based on political and personal connections rather than merit or talent. Feedback from managers and reviews do not happen on a regular schedule. Lack of professionalism throughout the management. Employees either remove themselves from the situation by finding a new job or choose to stay and become very demoralized and frustrated. The current job market makes Schawk look like the turnover is not that bad, but it would be if it was easier to find another job quickly.

Great place to start, stepping stone to next move.

Industrial Engineer (Former Employee) Chicago, IL

ProsFun people, ability to develop strong relationships with immediate supervisors.

ConsPoor morale stemming from disrespectful management. People need to be able to understand where their career is headed and to be rewarded for the pace of the work.
