I worked at SGS full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Entrepreneurial environment. High degree of freedom to bring home profit.

Under-qualified and scary management. Too much office politics. Low pay, long hours. No way to advance in your career.

    Advice to Management

I worked at SGS full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fast paced, great place to interact with different industries and market sectors

    Cons

No room for growth, stagnated salary structure, commissions/bonuses are always a moving target

    Advice to Management

It takes money to make money. Lower pay structure, entry level employees replacing tenured, experienced professionals will decrease revenue, affecting your bottom line every day.

I worked at SGS full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Opportunity for international postings, and exposure to large scale enterprise. The experiences you gain while working there, though they may not feel that great, will be very useful at other jobs. They have a laser-like focus on cost-cutting, which will stay with you in successive roles, even if you chose not to act on the instinct.

    Cons

Money is truly the only thing that matters at SGS; quality, safety and professionalism are only ever considered as an afterthought. There are good people working for the company, but most of the ranks are filled with those who are either not in the position to move to another company, or afraid to. The pay is low for most, and the company response to fixing any problem is always to say that the problem doesn't exist.

    Advice to Management

Invest heavily in IT and application development. What you are doing with 80,000 staff could be done with 60,000 and good automation. Also, you need to work on your credibility - customers go to SGS because they want the cheapest possible solution, not because they want a good one. There is only so long that can last.

I worked at SGS full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good working environment. Nice place to learn the field and move on to a more structured company.

    Cons

Upper management shady with big picture progress and not path for advancement.

    Advice to Management

Communication needs to happen more often. Need to have career paths for advancement otherwise employees will keep the same trend of staying a few years then moving on.
