I worked at SGS full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Overall, the team members were very friendly and supportive of each other.

    Cons

Miss old jobs, loss of opportunities for the employees. No training or career progression offered as promised during initial hiring interview. Highly educated people are getting hired with a promise of training and development, however get thrown 'at a deep end' from day one, and refused any sort of external training. In addition, the quality of internal training is very poor. The only focus is on the actual revenue. Employees are bullied by managers, and are regarded as 'disposable'. As a result of this, the team morale is very low. People are simply unhappy, and given the right opportunity would leave SGS at any time....

Far too slow to adapt to quickly changing business environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please investigate closely the management style at SGS Saudi office. It is ironic that a company that specializes in social compliance does not treat their own employees fairly. Organisation filled with relatives...

Try to think of your staff as human beings. A system for staff to feedback would be useful.

I worked at SGS full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Gated parking lot and large restrooms.

    Cons

No bonuses. No pay raise in last 5 years. People are quitting like crazy. At one point there wasnt enough staff to cover the shifts. Very high turn-over. By the time you finish training someone they are sick of the way the company and managers treat them and they quit. They do not keep anything private. You will find out who gets fired or written up 2-3 days in advance!!! There is too much mess, backstabbing, gossip, and trouble. Don't get me started on the amount of accidents that have occurred and the integrity of the results reported. If you do decide to work here make sure you ask exactly for the money you want or x5 more, because you will get it because no one wants to work here. They hire people with no experience because no one is willing to work here or stay long enough before they have time to fill another position. Doesn't matter how much you get paid you not be able to endure the way things work around here. Someone threaten to come to work and blow up the facility because he was too stressed about the job. Everyone was scared!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give Raises. Make employees feel appreciated and maybe the turn over will not be so high. Fire the assistant managers and maybe people will be a little Happier. Also, teach the managers how to talk to the employees, stop being rude, and spreading mess around the workplace.

    Pros

Friendly lab staff. Was a great place to work when I started there.

    Cons

    Top heavy management.
    No understanding of production timelines.
Very little regard for employee safety.
Management misleading about compensation, work hours, etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Speak to the lab staff to get an idea of turn around times prior to making commitments

    Pros

Hone your anger management skills as you struggle to repress an anyuerism

    Cons

There is nothing good about this company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire middle management. All of them. In fact SGS should probably just reboot the entire company and start over.

    Pros

It helps pay the bills. Plenty of business units within SGS and if you're lucky you might get in one that treats their employees a little better than environmental

    Cons

The absolute worst company I have ever seen. No respect for anyone and the supervisors are bullies. They have a QA manager that has hidden quality issues and yet she will never be fired.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a hard look at your turnover rates and get to the root cause.
