I worked at SGS full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Not working there anymore. The amount of experience.

    Cons

Management only listens to men. If you come in early and leave late daily you get written up for coming in late and leaving early. If you take the hour lunch that you are given you get written up for taking excessive lunches. You get scrutinized for following SOPs methods especially when it comes to calibration and verifying equipment. You get called sexist names behind your back.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the sexist pigs, stop taking clients/co-workers to strip clubs.

    Pros

They are closed the day after Thanksgiving

    Cons

This company does not treat its employees well. The management is unsupportive and does not treat its employees with respect. They manage by intimidation and threats which leaves their employees with a constant feeling of insecurity. You never know where you stand with this company because they do not know how to communicate to employees in a professional manner. They are constantly changing their focus and redirecting their employees, no body seems to know whats going on. Management will throw employees under the bus to protect themselves. There is no trust or respect here. Very high turnover, seems like someone is constantly being fired for unknown reasons.

    Advice to Management

Show your employees that you care about them and value them. Give your employees the tools they need to succeed. Train your managers on how to communicate and manage professionally.

Why would anyone pay 14,000 dollars for a tankerman training class? Look around you can do it for 500 to 1200.00 .

I have been working at SGS full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Can not think of any off hand

    Cons

Poor employee treatment, poor management, poor pay. They treat their employees like they are all stupid and not truely needed. In fact we were told as such at one time. Poor sales and management direction. Employees are under appreciated and not valued. I have been here for over 15 years. At one time it was run really well and we were treated pretty well, but have not seen that since 2011. They pay you hourly and 40 hours is a rareity, so you are treated like a contractor, and too bad if you didnt make 40 hours. I certainly would not recomend this job to anyone that has to make a fair living or raise a family. Un fortunately I am stuck here due to age restrictions

    Advice to Management

Start treating your Employees with respect, not like trash. Hire experienced and conciences automotive minded people as inspectors. Better communications, and much better sales force needed.

I have been working at SGS full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Better than being unemployed. Decent benefits.

    Cons

Horrible micromanaging, no company direction, high turnover rate, low morale amongst employers, "management vs. employee" mentality, no recognition for the good work, management does whatever they can to exert their power over you, in order to move up, you must suck up to management.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees like you appreciate their work, giving them pizza once every six months for working safe is not a good incentive.

I have been working at SGS full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A great variety of global employment opportunities across all the busniess lines.

    Cons

No clear growth strategy except to put pressure on employees to do more with less. Business model seems to be to assimilate small, profitable companies to support a burdensome, inefficient corporate bureaucracy. High potential for unethical behavior.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the boots on the ground - they are the ones that make your roles possible.
