I worked in SGV as Senior Associate for 7 years and for me the experience is very fulfilling

Senior Associate (Former Employee)
Makati City (Philippines)

I worked at SGV & Co. full-time for more than 5 years

ProsThe environment is amazing! having wonderful friends, family like environment is the only thing I miss in SGV. I'm still proud that I'm an SGVEAN because once you come out of the firm, for sure you will have a good career and you will be in the top management. Very good training I can say.

ConsCompensation is the worse nightmare of all employees. Not competitive after all the sleepless nights and very very hardwork.

Advice to Senior ManagementGive some credits to the employees who work so hard in the firm. Make things equal instead of making yourselves rich and unreachable.

One hell of an experience but no regrets

Audit Associate (Current Employee)
Cebu City (Philippines)

I have been working at SGV & Co. full-time for more than a year

ProsWhen I got hired, I eventually flew to SGV Makati for the assurance training. I loved the audit simulation and I wish we had that during college. In short, the training in SGV is the best. You get to deal with clients and learn from their audit and accounting issues as well. The job is not routinary, so you wont get bored. Your co-workers are of the same age as yours. You won't get behind your required CPE Credits. And you get learn in every engagement.

ConsYou get to work more than 8 hours a day during busy season. Overtime pay will depend on the account budget. If you are assigned to accounts with very low budget, you can't charge overtime that much. From my experience, I work 19 hours a day, and I only get to charge 2 hours as overtime. And sometimes you can't charge overtime at all.

Another thing, when employees get hired, their basic pay depends on the honors received and the school you graduated from. For employees who has honors and from a reputable school identified by SGV, they get to receive signing bonus and a basic pay of around P1,000 or P2,000 higher than the basic P16,000 a month. The firm did not really explicitly said this but me and my colleagues compare and share pay slips and have concluded above. One of my colleagues is from a school not known and a cum laude but she receives the same pay as I, who graduated without honors and a colleague who graduated from a known school and a magna cumlaude received a signing bonus and has pay P2,000 higher than the basic pay.

Advice to Senior Management1. Hire more employees if there is a need to.

2. Upgrade medical benefits to employees hiring more employees is costly. The employees get sick due to stress and long working hours.

3. Overtime pay to employees who handle small and complex accounts.

4. The amount you pay to your employees reflects how you value your employees.

ProsHigh value in the name of the Company. Large clients. Available resources and facilities. Regular training. Opportunities abroad.

ConsMake magic to have a work-life balance. Start up pay is really low so evaluate if the work experience you're gaining is wort it.

One of the best experience ever!

Associate Auditor (Former Employee)
Makati City (Philippines)

I worked at SGV & Co. full-time for more than a year

ProsAside from the very challenging work, the most special thing I experienced in SGV was that as if I'm working with my college friends since we have the same age. experience and interests. This is a great company which will really give you a strong foundation in accounting and auditing.

ConsWork/Life balance will truly suffer especially if you are assigned to a complex/large account. Also, compensation is not competitive since you are working in Ayala, Makati.

ProsA lot of learning opportunities. Also, there are times that you will be engaged in multiple industries depending on your assignments.

ConsBusy season hours are long depending on the employee. And there's this norm that you are discouraged to resign between January and April.

Learning experience

Associate Director (Current Employee)
Makati City (Philippines)

I have been working at SGV & Co. full-time for more than 5 years

ProsIt is the number 1 firm in the Philippines, chance to work with multinationals
You really learn a lot
Other companies really give premium when you say that you are from SGV

ConsIt felt like subsidized learning the whole time because the pay is not really competitive
Focus on the client too much resulting on work that should not be part of the scope
Poor work-life balance
No health card
