I worked at SMART Technologies full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Fantastic product lines and potentially great growth potential

    Cons

    Poor middle/senior management.
A sales channel internationally that just isn't going to deliver but the management team are too scared to open up exclusive deals or get rid of any of their partners.
    Canteen gets very boring

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop sticking with your appalling distribution strategy - it's not working
Start listening to ALL of your people, not just your favourite old timers

    Pros

Good work culture, able to research and learn new technologies.

    Cons

the Smart compensation is very less compared to the current market. Also been working for this company for a couple of years but couldn't grow further in the job and also do not see anything happening in near future.

I worked at SMART Technologies as an intern (more than an year)

    Pros

I really think that the best thing about SMART was the people. Lots of talent and managers served as great mentors. Some of the people that are still there to this day are absolute rock stars in what they could accomplish. Strong IT support, and SMART Boards in every meeting room was wonderful.

    Cons

There was a lot of challenge making progress as the company was constantly shifting to try to turn the stock price around. It made it nearly impossible to actually make any progress. I was an intern at the time and had 5 different managers and belonged to 3 department name changes during the 1.5 years I was there. I like many was let go in one of the waves of layoffs, but was not at all surprised at the time. They were very pleasant about the layoff, though I know it caused havok on moral, which I certainly hope has cleared up now. It'll be an upward battle for this company to break past the challenges over the next couple years, so if you're gonna work there you better enjoy facing challenges.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stick with objectives for long enough for it to actually permeate the company now that stock is going up, rather than jumping at each new idea.

    Positive Outlook

    Pros

Company culture was friendly, team oriented and casual.

    Cons

Hostility between departments. Company seems unstable - underwent massive layoffs in 2012. Restructures happen every year - no clear vision from upper management.

    Pros

    Great people.
    Change, something I enjoy.
Getting to work with a great product that makes a difference in schools and businesses around the globe.

    Cons

Slow to make decisions and get things accomplished.
At present time there is little upward mobility.
Need to do more for employees professional development.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in your employees and recognize their efforts. Do away with annual appraisals, getting goals half or two thirds through the year then having appraisals is pointless.

I worked at SMART Technologies full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

None. Company is primed for either sale or gutting. Penny stock. Enough said.

    Cons

Quality control. Defective products. Weak leadership and that being generous. Outdated modes of thinking around marketplace. High turnover. Bring in a completely new batch of employees every 3 years so no one knows where the bodies are buried. The list is endless.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cull the entrenched parasites feed off of the company. They've all for each others backs and its never anyone's fault when things go wrong.
