    1-month Internship review

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    I worked at SNCF

    Pros

Very good internship, experienced the maintenance workshop for the French high speed train.
You get to have discount on all your travels during your contract.

    Cons

Very repetitive job, few to zero communication with the engineer and staff.

  2.

I worked at SNCF as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Great benefits (train tickets are free for you and almost free for your closest relatives)
    Good life work balance
    Friendly atmosphere
You can have good career opportunities

    Cons

The hierarchy is very strong, so everything you'll do will take weeks, at least
You have to deal with a lot of incompetent coworkers, at any level
Depending on the job you're apllying, the pay isn't interesting
Depending on the department you're working in, you might face a lot of sexism

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It does exist a lot of disparities, depending the department you're working in : some people had a great experience working in this company. Some have, on the other hand, experienced a corporate living hell, especially temps.
I've seen a lot of distressed people in the Communication field, because they're asked to work with cheaper and cheaper budgets, leading to absurd situations. I know times are pretty hard, but you can't ask anyone to work if you can't provide them functional equipment, softwares, and (in this case) a (maybe tight) budget.
Be aware that a "manly environnement" isn't an excuse for sexist jokes and rude behavior.
If you need to hire temps, please make sure that they'll be supervised by professionals.
If you need to fire someone, just do it. Keeping incompetent workforce is just making you losing money.

    I worked at SNCF

    Pros

Very relaxed atmosphere, a friendly and family attitude in some departments.
Free 1st class train transport whenever and wherever in France.

    Cons

The pay is poor in comparison with other companies in similar sectors.
The job prospects are rather limited for a research engineer beginning his career.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The SNCF is very set in their ways, however recent university graduates generally want a company for which they can make a significant difference with an outcome that will not be slowed by administration and because change is not necessarily seen as positive.

I worked at SNCF as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Beaucoup de projets en cours sur le secteur du digital et de réelles innovations à venir au cours des prochaines années.

    Cons

Peut-être un peu trop éparpillé sur le cadrage des projets.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Prennez autant de personne que vous le faîtes actuellement mais sur un délai plus court.
