I have been working at SPX full-time

    Pros

Chance to get your hands on a lot due to the company split. Good group on people to work with. People within the company are friendly and executive management seems to be on the ball. Pretty good benefits. Every Friday is a half day during the summer, leave AT 1230 on the dot. Great resume' builder.

    Cons

None that I can think of at this point, but then again I have only been here for 2 weeks so I guess I am still in the "honeymoon phase" at this point.

    Advice to Management

Nothing, keep doing what you are currently doing. Definitely feel that I will leearn a lot in my position and will take a lot of exp. with me when it comes time to look for a new opportunity.

I have been working at SPX (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great work environment with a lot of knowledgeable people to learn from and exchange ideas

    Cons

not a ton to do. Lots of repetitive work including running models and simple data pulls using HFM. They only take 4 per year.

    Advice to Management

Keep rolling and this company is a great one to work for. The management team is top tier and should be a highly regarded place to work!

I have been working at SPX full-time

    Pros

The people who work here want to have success, and contribute positively to the companies growth.

    Cons

Too many changes in management, with unfocused goals.

    Advice to Management

Ease up on the management and organizational changes. Give us a chance to breathe, and let's focus on getting the work done. There have been a lot of structural and organizational shifts over the last two years, and the company goals have become muddied. Clear focus, with an opportunity to actually complete some long term projects successfully without midstream changes would go a long way toward improving morale. A win is a necessity!

I worked at SPX (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Management are a bunch of "Egos" that don't understand company values, mission or core beliefs. This makes it easy to get away with stuff!

    Cons

Management are a bunch of "Egos" that don't understand company values, mission or core beliefs. This makes it easy to get away with stuff! Everyone is adjusting to the fact that there direct manager is a "Yes-Man" that would rather be public ally insulted instead of standing up for what's right.

    Advice to Management

Grow the f--- Up and use some of that education to understand what it is really like in the world.

    Pros

Good benefits including life, health, dental and 401k. Good location in Chicagoland. Lots of freedom to work on different products and projects

    Cons

Behind the times on certain technologies and methodologies in engineering such as version control systems and software development processes. Recruiting and interviewing process is not clearly laid out.

I worked at SPX full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The company offers decent salary and benefits. Work experience will be solid because there is usually plenty of work to do. One can also expect friendly and intelligent colleagues, but it is heavily depending on which location and which department.

    Cons

The problems mostly come from the way the company is managed. There are frequent company structure changes and frequent upper and middle management changes. Unfortunately not all changes are done with thorough consideration and the results can tax heavily on its people. If one expects a stable environment for career growth and relationship building, this might not be the best place to invest time. There is also a lack of transparent system for internal career opportunities and promotions. Expect heavy politics and existence of "cliques". The company is very decentralized, therefore the culture at the different units can be dramatically different.

    Advice to Management

More focus to genuinely engage and care for employees.

    Cons

Manager was extremely nitpicky but no real other cons

    Pros

Large company with good cafeteria, if you work in the headquarters.

    Cons

Managers are incompetent and the IT department is embroiled in partisan issues of funding and growth direction. A myriad of disparate ERP's and an inability to compromise has left the business unit fractured and its progress quagmired. Heavy reliance on Microsoft Excel for data storing and manipulation.

    Advice to Management

Look into relational databases. Hire competent IT employees.

    Advice to Management

    Poor management
