    Pros

they really respect their employees and listen. All managers I worked with had the opinion that their job was to keep everyone off your back so you could do your job.

    Cons

If you get hired in the wrong group, it can feel like a 9-5 grueling grind.

    Advice to Management

get more funding so you can afford the staff you need.

    Pros

--Positive work environment, good collegiality, good camaraderie --Colleagues who are intelligent, thoughtful and professional --Accommodations for people with children and staff who need to commute from far away

    Cons

--Low salaries given the nature and complexity of the work --In certain cases underfunded projects which leads to tasks being completed in a shorter amount of time than they really need, or people working beyond their paid time to complete tasks --Lack of investment in helping junior researches develop new skill sets they don't have any experience in

    Pros

Great work life balance. Many show up late, take a long lunch and clock out early. Management likes to celebrate minor achievements with open bar nights in palo and expensive dinners in Menlo.

    Cons

I left industry to join SRI and found the it very hard to integrate into the culture here. I also found the average skill level to be rather low, near garage hobbyist levels and the portfolio reflects that. Anyone of merit or quality doesn't spend much time at SRI; the rest spend a career there.

    Advice to Management

    No advice, they'll keep rowing.

    Pros

Once you know how to get on projects, it is up to you and your project leads to make your career trajectory. You can try new things sometimes and grow in the new area, which I liked. I also think hours are flexible and are friendly to working mothers. I miss the collegial culture with smart, fun people!

    Cons

At the beginning, it felt like never ending job search process as you constantly need to be on projects to meet your sold time goal. Facility is old.

    Pros

Employees treated very well, good benefits and retirement plan

    Cons

Merit increases are very low, no matter what your performance is you get the same as everyone else, even those who do not provide good results.

    Advice to Management

Take a closer look at employee contributions and pay accordingly

    Pros

The overall company experience is good. The pace is fairly bearable and the people are good to work with for the most part. I thoroughly enjoyed working with my peers. The things they do at SRI as a company are quite interesting and you get your own office. SRI is a highly respected institute but rapidly losing that designation.

    Cons

Some of the management have issues with allowing individuality or contribution. They tend to micromanage, and you had better not disagree or challenge them. They speak of diversity and how they support staff, but if you don't do it their way you get reprimanded. Even if the results are equal or better. They give preference to some and ignores many. The pay is below Silicon Valley standards and the the benefits are as well. I worked as a contractor for almost a year and was told from the beginning that SRI has a very high conversion rate. This in not true. There were contractors that have been there for as much as five years without becoming a direct. They put up a good facade but once you get in. things change.

    Advice to Management

I would recommend to upper management that they better screen their department heads and test for bipolar disorder. I chose to leave on my own accord because of the issues explained above. In the beginning is was great, but that rapidly changed. Very unfortunate.

    Pros

Flexible work schedule if you're in a good group. Laid back Menlo Park campus. Intelligent colleagues. Great commuter benefits.

    Cons

Pay is very low by silicon valley standards. Old equipment. New CEO seems to support low pay. Layoffs have been happening. Overall moral is very low.

    Advice to Management

Pay better and take better care of your employees if you want to keep them
