I have been working at SRI International full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Lots of research projects. Freedom to create your own research projects and working on it. Laid back and easy environment. You most likely get your own private office. It offers the benefits of a company in an academia-like environment.

    Cons

It can feel a bit boring at times. There is not a lot of fun activities on the campus. The average age range is high.

    Pros

You have the ability to learn a great deal!

    Cons

    No comment. None whatsoever!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Definitely no comment; besides, it's useless. Nothing will change. Things will be done the same old way...since 1946.

I have been working at SRI International full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

If you have a PhD, you might be able to do some research. Expect a close office.

    Cons

Research groups do not mix much. The PI will decide for you what you should work on, if you are allowed to write papers or not. Do not expect the PI to promote you to become a PI. You will keep working for him or her to write his or her papers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Non PI need more freedom to have a say in the research they want to do. Grant money is not owned by a PI, it should be managed by the group of researchers that was able to obtain that grant.
