I worked at SSI Surgical Services

    Pros

Man, this is hard. If you have a four-year college education, I would not recommend this job to you. However, for those who don't, it could be a decent job. Hours were pretty flexible and it was easy to get out early often if the case load (surgerys) was light on any particular day. They would work with you if you worked two jobs, sort of... Training was thorough, if not too thorough.

    Cons

You wash dirty surgical instrumentation. You are can some times be stuck at the hospital for long hours on busy days. Overtime happened frequently enough to warrent concern for their policies regarding pay for overtime. They pay HALF time overtime, not time and a half. So if you went over your 40 hour work week, anytime worked after would be half your normal hourly rate. Starting salary is horrendous for the amount of work you do. Company didnt seem to ever be in the best financial health. Opportunities for advancement are very hard to come by.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase the pay substantially. Recruit a blue collar workforce exclusively for the specialist position. Cut the Orlando training by in at least half, if not all together as the job is not that difficult and could be taught at individual accounts.

I worked at SSI Surgical Services

    Pros

Some days are much shorter than others -- may only have to work 4 hours or so
Early start to the day unless you are on call -- 6:30 - 7:30 am
    Benefits provided
    Training is given (in Florida)

    Cons

when short-staffed or under-staffed, call schedule and hours worked feel like slavery
not adequate compensation for having to deal with rude and demanding surgeons and running your butt off
emergencies can cause you to go in on call 3 and 4 times in the middle of the night
if you do not use all of your sick/vacay time, they won't even carry it over or pay you for it at the end of the year

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay more so that your turnover rate is not so high! Pay more respect to your employees who work their tails off to make your company money!
