I have been working at STA full-time for more than a year

    Pros

benefits are great for mechanics, supervisors are helpful but at times micromanage but I don't believe its on purpose.

    Cons

the pay is hard to deal with considering the standard for diesel mechanic is about 5 dollars more than what we are being paid and depending on locating the pay is less? the benefits is why I stayed but the demand were under worrying about kids safety and the actual importance of out job the pay is a joke.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

think of the technicians, I saw a bus driver comment they are the backbone of this company. I see drivers and aids come and go. Take better care of your technicians we keep those buses rolling safely, and if someone is hurt it falls on us. So raise our pay make us feel appreciated id hate to leave because of a pay issue. I like the challenge of my job to keep kids safe.

I have been working at STA part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Split shift leaves ample time to take classes or handle business in the morning. The starting pay (I work in a California yard) is pretty good considering you don't need a college degree or even a GED to get in. Also, there are benefits (not very good ones though) and raises every year.

    Cons

VERY little room for meaningful advancement. Outside of becoming a behind-the-wheel trainer or a classroom instructor (which only guarantees a $.25 raise and a 30 hour week), supervisor/management or decent paying salaried jobs are hard to come by and you have to wait in a seniority line to get one (which could take years). The ceiling pay for drivers currently stands at around $18/hr. (7+ years work), you are only guaranteed part-time hours (even though there are opportunities to work more every week if you make yourself available), and there is a clear distinction made between the management, payroll, and dispatcher departments and the drivers (who are the backbone of the company). They don't even refer to the drivers as staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase the top pay to at least $20/hr or go back to giving us 30 hr guaranteed weeks, Also, show more appreciation for your drivers. We are staff too, not just the managers. Without us, there would be no company.

I have been working at STA part-time

    Pros

The hours are OK for a part-time job.
The buses are generally kept in good mechanical condition.
    The pay rate is OK

    Cons

Management has little or no respect for its drivers.
Management, although very safety conscious, harangues local employees when accidents occur at other terminals.
Management is "bottom-line" driven. Keeps buses mechanically OK, but refuses to wash them. This makes the company look less than satisfactory to the general public.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember that the drivers are the ones who make or break a company. Show us some respect. Spend a little money to keep your vehicles "looking good". That's what the
public sees. Make rules that are enforceable. If you're not willing to enforce/follow your own rules, don't make them.

Make sure your "Safety Directors" acknowledge the correct parties when there is some failure to follow safety rules. Don't make all of the employees scapegoats for the driving habits of a few.
