    High Expectations - Poor Experience

    Regulatory (Former Employee)

ProsSTERIS offers a competitive paycheck, great benefits and a convenient/safe location. Company looks great on paper. Large player in the Medical Device Industry.

ConsOverbearing and ineffective direction. Limited and poorly executed vision. Very high turnover rate. Unprofessional, often verbally abusive work environment. Low moral. Difficult to manage day to day responsibilities due to lack of consistency in management and no true standardization in procedures. Inadequate internal training/no external training offered for new hires or company cross overs. Unrealistic expectations considering lack of quality training offered. Poor work/life balance due to constant "emergencies" overshadowing time sensitive day to day responsibilities resulting from lack of planning/direction/effective management etc.

Advice to Senior ManagementOffer adequate training and time for employees to gain confidence in independent decision making, remembering this does not typically happen in several months. Re-evaluate structure when turnover is so high and moral is so low. Provide some across the board consistency; have confidence in decisions and stick to them.

Face to face interview with district service manager went very well. Job Offer Accepted

Field Service Representative I (Current Employee)
    San Diego, CA

ProsHome office is great!, Do what you are supposed to do and they leave you alone. No micro-managing, naggy supervisors or any complaining employees to bother with.
I don't understand why some people are complaining when Steris is actually hiring in a stagnate job market. Maybe the previous employees couldn't pass the Seris University online testing? It is pretty tough! WOW!!!

ConsCommunication could be better from management.

Advice to Senior ManagementHave an open line of communication from smartphone/device to a smart help desk for any type of issue. Too many phone numbers to remember.

Many changes to the Director of Operation position within the past 5 years has led to a severe decline in morale

    Associate Scientist (Current Employee)
    Saint Louis, MO

ProsLenient work hours for office employees. 3% (at the time) match for 401K, great health insurance, safe environment, training

ConsLow morale, quality & customer satisfaction > your satisfaction, LEAN initiatives have gone overboard and include auditing office desks, no 'thank yous' or 'congratulations' for any milestones or achievements, no room for growth

    Advice to Senior Managementsee cons

Long standing industry leader with a desire to remain at # 1 or 2 position

    Project Manager (Current Employee)
    Dallas, TX

ProsGreat opportunities to continuously learn new skills due to customer needs.

ConsVery political so keep your head low and press on.

Advice to Senior ManagementSome of your best employees may not play the game well so you end up with political hacks and not great employees.

Prostreat employees well, opportunities for advancement, good training

Conslack of connection with field based employees, and do not allow sufficient time for certain jobs or roles to fully implement

    Best company ever.

    Project Manager (Current Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsVery family orientated company. They have excellent insurance, good vacation time, sick time, a scholarship fund for employee children and yearly raises

ConsTakes a long time for design changes to take affect. Not enough opportunities to earn extra money on commission or bonuses.

    Needs improvement

Prefer Not to Say (Current Employee)
    Saint Louis, MO

ProsCan't think of many. At least the paychecks do not bounce

ConsSadly the upper and middle management don't have a handle on daily operations. Apparently their idea of good management is piling on more work and responsibility without giving you the authority to accomplish your job. In addition pay and benefits are far below the competition. Your reward for working 70 hours a week? A bad review and no pay increase.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a good look at how a system works before changing it. Simply cutting staff and loading the work on the remaining personnel is a recipe for disaster over the long term.
