Pros
Large company with good products. Competitive pricing and improving management at all levels. Were becoming more aggressive with compensation in order to compete with other medical device and equipment companies.
Cons
Like most big companies, got heavy handed with reports and sales meetings at times. While it was good they were trying to become more competitive in healthcare, there seemed to be a shifting of direction from year to year.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay to hire great people and then let them do their jobs. Judge the performance and worry less about reports and sales calls and sales meetings.
Pros
Innovative and forward thinking company that is striving for a bigger foot hold in their business sector.
Cons
Below average pay for for most positions.
Pros
A chance to make a difference
Cons
With a few exceptions, management in the field is poor.
Pros
A good company with a solid balance sheet. It is a company where you can still make an impact because it is a realtively young company.
Cons
Not a lot of movement at the higher levels and therefore there is opportunity up to a point. On the other hand it is a great place to learn.
Advice to Senior Management
More creativity is needed to develop and retain talent. It's too late to act after they tell you they are leaving.
Pros
1. Offer work stability
2. Salary is acceptable
3. Good Benefits.
4. You work in a company focus in the healthcare.
Cons
1. There is not an established program of human development.
2. There is not a clear opportunity of grow up. Therefore is a lot of rotation.
3. There is not a clear communication and deployment of the objectives and goals of the company.
4. Training is not efficient in some key positions that could be involved with a regulatory body.
At least at level of manufacturing plant. Looks like Training Department need to know which is the scope of your position and level of responsability in order to determine an apropriate training plant.
5. Centralized company. A problem is you want to develop and idea and your dont work in headquaters.
6. There is not a strong culture that unify the different process.
7. Lack of strong information systems that help to the different process to be more efficients.
8. Employees dont feel recognized for the contribution make to the organization.
9. At least the manufacturing plan does not recognize those who come up with new ideas.
10. You work for the system insted of the system works for you.
Advice to Senior Management
My recommendation is that headquaters promote an employee satisfaction survey in the different locations and that the information could be handled by personnel with experience in Human Development.
Promote the development of ideas that could be supported by the upper management.
Its important to development the STERIS Quality Culture that could unify all the organization.
Invest in systems to develop databases that help to the personnel to be more efficient. Be paperless!
Improve the information systems.
Take care of the knowledge. Establish a program to protect it for future generation of employees.

Advice to Senior Management
When you constantly exceed expectations, you deserve more than a handshake.
Pros
Great corporate location in Mentor, Ohio; solid company; current executive management is leading the company in the right direction to optimize growth and profits.
Cons
Over the past five years, the office "perks" have been minimized - nothing life-changing, but the new CEO cut back a lot of frivolous waste. As a shareholder, I must agree with this approach, but as an employee, it was sad to see some of the changes.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep doing what you're doing. I'm enjoying the security, stability, and profitability of our company, and I would recommend STERIS as a responsible employer.
Pros
I have a company vehicle, laptop, cell phone, and I get to make my schedule. Benefits are pretty good. Depending on the manager it's like being your own boss.
Cons
I don't feel that I get paid as much as I should. There is a disconnect between upper management and technician level. Upper management tends to look at the numbers almos exlusively rather than service that is provided. There is a real negative feeling in the engineering department that trickles down in their work. There aren't many places to expand and recieve significant promotions. I also like to work with people and I am often working alone in this job.
Advice to Senior Management
I feel that their job can be very difficult and demanding and for the most part they are doing pretty good. However I think there are too many projects going on and not enough focus.
Pros
fun products that help healthcare
Cons
You cant work for steris for the compensation
Advice to Senior Management
There is a bottle neck in mid level management that needs to be addressed.
Pros
Extremely diverse work environments (In Life Science division especially). Very technical work incorporating electrical, plumbing, and programming troubleshooting. Workers report directly to customer sites, no punching in and seeing your boss everyday! A company vehicle is provided and allowed for personal use. Cell phone, laptop, and air-card are also provided to be used on the job. STERIS is in every hospital in the country and in most laboratory applications. Roots of the company are over 140 years old. STERIS is a world leader in infection control technology. When the post office in Alexandria, VA was contaminated by anthrax spores, STERIS VHP technology was used to clean the facility. You deal intimately with customers, involved not only in maintenance, but in account management and parts requisition. It is almost like running your own business.
Cons
You do not get paid like you run your own business. All the knowledge that you are expected to have and acquire, you are not compensated fairly for it. Yes, you do get a vehicle and have a flexible schedule (a flexible schedule really means that when you are done with your service calls you can go home), but there is very little room for advancement and salary scales seem to be kept at Fort Knox. There are a lot of people that work at this company for over 20 years and less than 5. There are not too many in between. They either go to work for a customer, or leave the industry entirely. Both reasons are for more pay.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop worrying about cutting costs so much and get back to focusing on taking care of the customer. With happy, satisfied customers, the profit will come.
