Pros
Good work environment
No Aggressive schedule
Cons
Less pay
less growth as senior people don't leave
Advice to Senior Management
Need to put more focus on the technical growth ladder
Pros
Smart people
High tech
easy to change from one job to another
Cons
'People' are not the heart of this company
No empowerment
No real recognition of your competencies
Pros
Very international and if your position allow it lots of interaction with management from different Business units. Lots of advantages out of the work and great work-life balance.
Cons
Compensation plan very bad in France and career progression very slow. Bounuses are very small or inexistent at lower levels.
Advice to Senior Management
Management promotion is very much based on seniority and age rather than in meritocracy. There should be a program for young talent to promote young management.
Pros
Very sound work culture, very employee friendly environment. The ST brand has made its presence felt across the globe, so naturally one feels delighted to be associated with this company.
Cons
designations may sound inferior Vs the amount of actual responsibilities given to an employee
Advice to Senior Management
promote HR driven leadership selection programmes across all divisions, include more and more young employees in leadership roles.
Pros
ST is a company that works very hard to keep its employees. They have money but are smart about it. No excessive spending. They are fair to their employees giving them a chance to advance or change jobs.
Cons
Upper management is mostly in Italy.
Advice to Senior Management
Better communication with the employees.
Pros
Very less and simple work, even non-technical persons can also do the technical work at ST. Safe haven for inefficient managers and engineers for longer stay. Less availability of good vlsi engineers in New Delhi area therefore there is job security.
Cons
Most of the immediate supervisors/managers are inefficient therefore they always support their inefficient team members for their own job security and growth.
Mostly promotions and good salary hike are given to least performer and inefficient employees causing best performer to leave the company.
Knowledge of dirty politics is required for better growth and job security.
Not recommended to work for more than 4 years else he/she will become jack of all trades and master of none.
Advice to Senior Management
The senior management should replace 95% of middle management.
The team members should do appraisal to their immediate supervisor.
Pros
Friendly international community of colleagues, usually ready to help each others. World class company with a lot of resources, financial, IP, methods ,experience
Cons
Poor management of HR, too much cronyism, no link performance reward, slow decision making. The lack of professional mobility may discourage young engineers
Advice to Senior Management
Bring professional HR on board, support people and MAKE DECISION do not wait for the boat to be rocked by bad weather.
Pros
- innovation is encouraged
- good technical and behavioral trainings
- one of few vlsi companies with own fabrication, so vlsi engineers can get opportunity to learn about the process.
Cons
- compensation avg compared to industry
Pros
Colleagues are friendly, no much pressure
Flexible working hours
A place you can learn
Cons
Compensation is not competitive
Difficult to be promoted
Pros
Work life balance is great. Not a single project in 2.5 years demanded staying back till late. In fact staying back till late was questioned. It is a good place to retire, because there is not much growth. ST is your typical enterprise with many processes well established, if not optimized.
Cons
There is not much growth in this company. My specific team is marred with dirty politics and favoritism. There is a lot of bureaucracy to get good ideas implemented. ST is your typical enterprise which has a lot of momentum and doesn't seem to change. It still respects seniority over performance when it comes to salaries and promotions.
Advice to Senior Management
The management seems to consist of many well-experienced folks. But this also means they are from an era bygone! Even moderately recent technologies are unheard of. For example, web design is still done in HTML, not PHP, not AJAX, not Flex, but plain old HTML. State of some affairs are really sad with the decision maker being retrograde. Getting processes optimized is a pain point, even if one has numbers to prove their point.
Management buy-in for new ideas is far less than it should be. I wish senior management would leave experimenters alone, with reasonable help and funds, rather than getting stuck with approval for each and every minor change.
Also a big change can be brought if Information Technology is implemented, for knowledge management and improving usability of daily tasks, in the ideal way info tech is meant to be used.
