    Organised chaos

    Product Engineer (Current Employee)

    ProsSkilled engineers, but also friendly, open minded, always ready to share experience, make STMicroelectronics a very good place to learn;
    Also young engineers are involved in important and advanced projects;
    Plenty of nice locations worldwide, internal mobility is somehow allowed (sometimes this is the best way to grow);
    Very good high-technology projects.

    ConsBad place if you seek for a fast career: regardless of your skills, seniority is more important;
    Salary low and stagnant, so it cannot be meritocratic;
    The top managers are too busy with reorganizations to follow the company, and continuous unjustified reorganizations generate low efficiency and a general chaos;
    According to some Italian newspapers (www.cataniatoday.it), another general reorganization will be announced next week.

    Advice to Senior ManagementGo back to Pasquale Pistorio's management policy and long-term vision. Listen to organizations, do not re-organise each year (or even more often). Value employees with facts (career and salary), not only with good words.

    limited scope for growth

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

    Prosgreat work-life balance. Quite a few in-house an other training enables learning but one need to be self-motivated and disciplined as plenty of scope to get complacent and eventually a redundant piece in huge setup.

    ConsMediocre and risk avoiding work culture. Lack of quality check-points leave a huge gap in technical deliverable. Quite a big percent of work-force are 10-15 yrs ST-experience in lower-middle tier management which avoid riskier project and happy to live in cocooned environment.

    Advice to Senior Managementwake-up and churn-up human resource. Be relentless in execution else legacy product will phase out fast and will be left much to be desired.

    Sales (Former Employee)

    ProsGreat colleagues, Good Pay, Good Benefits

    ConsNo communication between managers and employees. Organizational changes are constant.

    Advice to Senior ManagementGo back to Pasquale Pistorio's management policy. Listen to organizations and apply the knowledge they hold to keep this company moving forward. Actually USE the employee suggestion plan which would benefit you greatly.

    I had my career frozen for the time I worked here

    Software Engineer (Former Employee)
    Edinburgh, Scotland (UK)

    ProsVery friendly, supporting colleagues
    Allowed to explore things (and sometimes to try them live as well)
    You will not be sacked very easily
    If you want peace of mind without doing anything, it is the right place

    ConsNo recognition of whatever you do
    Very poor pay scale. It is easy to get into the company with inflated pay scale. But once in, salary increment is just a peanut.
    Promotion? Don't ever think about it.
    Unless you are an annoyer you get nothing in return.

    Nice international community of colleagues . Top management 's failure to take leadership after Pistorio's departure

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

    ProsFriendly international community of colleagues,usually ready to help each others. World class company with a lot of resources, financial, IP, methods ,experience

    ConsPoor management of HR, too much cronyism, no link performance reward, slow decision making. The lack of professional mobility may discourage young engineers

    Advice to Senior ManagementBring professional HR on board, support people and MAKE DECISION do not wait for the boat to be rocked by bad weather.
