    Pros

Good (but not great) Semiconductor company. If you are better than average you can truly shine at this company. Lots of opportunities to learn, travel, assume new responsibilities. Some very good mentoring. Good pay at the right level and at the right location(s).

    Cons

Very few non-Europeans make it to top management. Still a very French/Italian culture company. Company continues to manage the same old fashioned way.

    Advice to Management

Need new (young) blood in management. The company needs to be more forward looking and take chances as needed.

Close some office in Europe and fire useless employees

    Pros

Wide variety of work. Supported professional activities.

    Cons

Now it's dominated by cost cutting and politics.

    Advice to Management

Chasing off your best people is not a good long term strategy.

    Pros

When you work at STM, you got the opportunity to access a very interesting domain of technology. Every day you are learning something new ...
the work environment is cute and friendly.

    Cons

Some projects arrived in a critical path and you find yourself working under stress (project value : some Million of dollars). Hurry up, do your job quickly but do it correctly ...

Potential to be a great company consistently messed up by lack of leadership, strategy & direction.

    Pros

For someone outside of Europe, a fantastic place for multi-cultural experience, particularly for business owners wanting experience dealing with international organizations.
The guys in Grenoble lot better than rest of the Europe.
If the BUs put their determination behind something, wonders can happen. eg., MEMs, power mgmt, etc.

    Cons

The Director level mgmt needs a forklift change. Most have scant idea how to run/grow a business.
The leadership has no idea how to create a strategy to run a huge org; once in a while a hit comes along to save grace.
Huge dependence at all levels on who you know to get the job done. There are hardly any processes to run a multi-segment businesses.

    Advice to Management

To succeed, stop laying off US employees & remove the guarantees of lifelong-jobs in Europe. Start instilling high-performing leadership in key BUs to demonstrate performance based success.
Reward based on performance metrics as opposed to seniority & who you know.
Ask INSEAD to do a case study on why TI which was at the same position as STM has been able to do so successfully & implement the recommendations.

    Pros

Possibility to learn for at least 2 years. Depending on group you can find excellent people. Possibility to travel even extensively

    Cons

No meritocracy , none possibility to grow. Carrier opportunity just political defined.
    Low salary
    Top management absolutely inadequate.
    Abnormous size for marketing group

    Advice to Management

Radical change, from top to medium management need. Offer real opportunity for each employee basing on meritocracy. Tasks ,owner must be better defined

    Pros

People, diversity, benefits, mobility potential, European roots, travel, pension plan, good 401k matching, work life balance, cross functional tasks,

    Cons

Slow to promote, minimal stock allowances, lower pay than competitors, salary increase just matches inflation, constant cost-cutting programs, not investing enough in US as French and Italian employees cannot be layer off.

    Pros

Multi-cultural atmosphere. I learned so much in the work environment at ST, it has helped me a great deal moving forward.

    Cons

The CEO retired and the replacement was not there for the employees, things changed and the company values were not upheld.

    Advice to Management

Learn to listen to your employees, take notice when one of them is unhappy or if the department is having issues. If you are pro-active then the group will be very productive. It's when concerns fall on deaf ears that employees get discouraged and then find work elsewhere.
