    Pros

The atmosphere is non-competitive and nurturing for someone new to the field. I love working here. The benefits are great and there is plenty of room for advancement.

    Cons

Sometimes travel can get tiring. I really don't have too many cons except it is a large employer with a lot of bureaucracy at times.

    Advice to Management

Collaboration is important. I think with all the levels of management, the collaboration that does happen is quite remarkable. I know that it is difficult to keep everyone happy, especially in a place with so many highly educated people. I like working here and hope to advance in my career here.

    Pros

Great place to work, brilliant co-workers, well diversified community. Weather in summer is very lovely in summer.

    Cons

Buffalo is too cold and it snows a lot. It's hard to commute to campus in winter.

    Pros

The place has good benefits (depending on union contract negotiations). A mix of project work and system upkeep. A place where a jack of all trades can easily fit in. Only need to put in about 50% effort to get by if that's your thing.

    Cons

Low pay. Organizational structure changes often. Departments come and go based on latest revision of management. As more are union positions, give too many people the opportunity to slack without any recourse.

    Advice to Management

Hire great people and let them work with other great people. Give direction and encourage ideas. Break down barriers to help foster productivity.

  7. Great university but low pay

I worked at SUNY Buffalo full-time

    Pros

Academic environment was a great atmosphere. Department allowed freedom of ideas and supported research in any justifiable field. Screw Flanders.

    Cons

Salary was quite low, even for Buffalo. So low in fact that it was necessary to take additional student loans to cover basic living expenses.

    Advice to Management

Pay your student teachers more. At least enough to keep them above the poverty line. Buffalo isn't an expense place to live but if you want employees to focus on their students they need to have enough to not worry day to day.

    Pros

Easy to balance with school Laid back Able to do Homework between tutoring sessions Rewarding

    Cons

None to speak of, being a writing tutor was laid back and the 10 per hour compensation was fair
