Decent experience but tough since its state run so it's more run down and less efficient than the private hospitals.

SUNY Downstate used to be a good place to work, now it is more like a prison

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Brooklyn, NY

I have been working at SUNY Downstate Medical Center full-time for more than 3 years

ProsDownstate has some of the most dedicated professionals that I have ever met. I have many good friends at Downstate.

ConsSince PTS took over there seems to be no future in working for Downstate. People are looked down upon and we are made to feel as if we have nothing to contribute. This Hospital is being sucked dry.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of all of these consultants and the losers running IT.

Intellectually stimulating, but chaotic postdoc experience (would depend on lab, naturally)

I have been working at SUNY Downstate Medical Center full-time for more than 3 years

ProsThe project I was on was a great research interest match; learned many useful skills

ConsSalary a bit low, even for a post-doc; project management frequently anarchic; milestones often unclear; long hours

I have been working there for 6 years. During first 4 years I worked hard. But it doesn't make sense.

Staff Assistant (Current Employee)
Brooklyn, NY

I have been working at SUNY Downstate Medical Center for more than 5 years

ProsGood medical plan. Good sick leave. Good vacation.
Close to my home.

ConsUnprofessional environment. Dirty offices. People are indifferent and lazy for work.
Salary doesn't correspond to job level and work attitude.
Management doesn't care about the result, but only how it looks in front of the for superior management.
The culture is like in 3 world country. Too much communism: to everyone the same.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake yourselves out of union. Get what you deserve.
