    Pros

Work with exceptionally qualified higher education professionals and truly dedicated staff. Professional development opportunities, excellent benefits, and the knowledge that - whatever your role - you are making a meaningful contribution to future generations.

    Cons

Responsibilities currently outstrip resources. So, "plan ahead" may be in the organization's vocabulary but, until funding can be improved, it's an ideal that is seldom achieved.

    Advice to Management

Continue making emotional intelligence training a high priority for managers with overworked staffs. And continue supporting one another as best you can. Better days are coming.

    Pros

SUNY attracts passionate, appreciative students to its class rooms. The staff I have had the opportunity to worked with are also very supportive and creative.

    Cons

Unfortunately, as most are aware, working as an adjunct is challenging, awarding work, but the salary that is offered in many of the institutions are not commensurate to experience.

    Advice to Management

My advice to Chairs of departments would be to petition the boards of the colleges to recognize the significance of it part-time faculty and to find ways to increase the salaries of its adjuncts in the class room.
