Pros
- Good benefits
- Opportunity for growth
Cons
- Employers care more for company than employees
Advice to Senior Management
Treat employees more like people than numbers.
Pros
It seemed like diversity was encouraged and it was fun to participate in some of the employee resource groups. The intern program was not as developed as some of the programs at other companies I have worked for though.
Cons
As an intern, instead of working on your own project or in a team of peers you join a group of senior analysts so I ended up doing some side work for them most of the time instead of actually getting exposure to project management or being actively engaged in the product development lifecycle planning.
Advice to Senior Management
Work on developing the internship program more to have a more structured and challenging experience. Give interns a chance to get more involved with project planning and managing teams.
Pros
large store base
buying power
good store sites
decent pay scale
future plans sound good but taking too long to materialize
Cons
lack of technology
not agile
cutting expenses without the right thought process
uncaring
priced out of markets they operate in
Advice to Senior Management
need more action from people that know the business and need to start taking real action to be competitive -
Pros
There is a tremendous potential for growth of the business. Need to explore expanding into more markets and increase store base
Cons
You never know if you are going to have your job long term from one day to the next. Job security is a big issue
Advice to Senior Management
Recognoize the jobs that people do on a daily basis and reward them at the end of the year/////every year
Pros
I think it was an ok place to work for. Pay was good, benefits ok, safe place, drug free, and incentives to be safe.
Cons
Didn't think twice about closing down Harrisburg on of the top warehouses in the company. Seniority down to zero if transferred.
Advice to Senior Management
They could have made a plea to stick up for us instead of writing us off as a number. Guess they did it to protect their backs.
Pros
There were a lot of good people in the business, but many were synergized due to the acquisition. It is hard to find a Pros other than there is plenty of opportunities for the business to improve. PLENTY!!!
Cons
Post Albertson's merger environment is very unfocused. Leadership talks a good game, but is having difficulty executing a concise plan.
Advice to Senior Management
Pricing, pricing, pricing. This should be the highest priority. With all the technology tools available to consumers today, smart phones, websites, coupon services, cable shopping instructional shows, having competitive prices is the ticket to the show. Freshness and clean stores are a given, but the premise of customers being loyal to a retailer is just as false as retailers being loyal to their customers.
When sales or margins are off it is a know fact that SVU raises prices on Non SKVI and KVI items sometimes over 300%. Not good and seen as very sneaky.
Pros
Dress code and a fun industry
Cons
Worked like an ape, horrible compensation, no overtime, no opinion, poor management yet nothing changes, extremely low employee morale, miserable work environment. Every senior level manager barely even went to college yet they are making big decisions.
Advice to Senior Management
Get a degree above a GED. Learn how to treat your employees as humans and read up on what the company is supposed to do. It might help
Pros
It is undergoing change right now, so it might be a good opportunity for growth.
Cons
There is way too much red tape. The company is anything but agile, however they are working to correct this in the future.
Advice to Senior Management
There are way to many associates that do not actually add any value to the company. Cut the red tape.
Pros
good benefits, yearly increase, good people to work with
Cons
employees were overworked, no OT pay
Advice to Senior Management
please look into the OT pay of your employees everyday 1 hour or more charity is not good, also there are far more worthy employees for promotion, instead of hiring new ones for supervisory why not give career advancement for your assistants..
Pros
Open honest communications given a difficult retail season.
Cons
Lots of change going on makes it difficult for associates to feel they have a voice.
