Pros
The pay was good. I did't have to be in the office much.
Cons
The days were long. When you were home you had to do paperwork. Felt like I was working 24/7.
Advice to Senior Management
Make sure when you put people in the position to supervise they know the job.
Pros
professional experience- complicated business provides experience withing multiple aspects of the industry. Ability to learn and see how each part of the business community works together to accomplish a project- from accounting to finance to marketing to retail
Cons
Complicated business model- lack of effective communication between departments, lack of consistency within in programs and departments especially between their corporate banner stores and independents. There is no clear vision of the direction that the company will take in order to be successful and profitable. There are no performance management systems in place and no one seems to be held accountable for their work. There is no work life balance- which is due to the inefficiencies in how they do business. You are expected to be at work/ on call at all times. The company lacks diversity and everyone is counting down the months to their retirement. Succession planning is non-existent.
Advice to Senior Management
Succession planning is key to the future of the company. Who's going to run the business when everyone retires in 15 months?? Don't just teach diversity and inclusion- do something about it.
Pros
Not many good reasons to work at SUPERVALU these days. Benefits had been good. Employment was steady. Reputation was solid. Most of these things aren't true anymore
Cons
Was getting to be a real sweatshop when I left. Have heard it's worse now
Advice to Senior Management
There won't be any quick fixes. Get your focus back on the mission statement and LT growth by paying attention to people.
Pros
New energized management team. Great banners, brands, history and outstanding store locations. Great opportunity to contribute to the turnaround of a great American grocery retailer.
Cons
Business is hurting and must turnaround.
Advice to Senior Management
We all want to contribute, keep getting us involved!
Pros
Good benefits in this company.
Cons
Chaotic - a conglomeration of many grocery acquisitions during the late 20th century with very little effort to standardize policies and infrastructure. As such, different rules apply in similar situations and it is up to the employee to figure things out. The SUPERVALU acquisition of Albertsons could have been beneficial for all, however SUPERVALU never forced the standardizaiton required for efficiency. The result is constant knee-jerk change and an inefficient and expensive operation, ultimately costing the customers at check-out, and long-term employess their jobs.
Advice to Senior Management
The CIO had better standardize processes across all banners in IT or the ship will sink.
Pros
The company has great people and potential to be a great company. In my time the company has become much more inclusive, and leadership is improving.
Cons
We have great people, but spotty leadership, strong in some areas weak in others. Company is a collection of fiefdom's and legacy companies, not enough leadership effort to forge a One Company mindset.
Advice to Senior Management
We must become One Company, snuff out the legacy mind sets and fiefdom's that hurt the whole company.
Pros
1. Calm company, Retail so IT will not have much work to do
2.with out work, you can read more in company
3. you can play TT for hours
4. You can learn your area of tools or subject from scratch, Learn more
Cons
1. No work expansions or growth in work, you will be doing same thing for years
2. Management is kind of Local, Managers will be doing Micro Management
3. Developing only one person in team that to like local regions.
4. Not even good food
5. Transport is horrible, you have to pay for it and you will get worse service
Advice to Senior Management
There is feel that, Managers are more dominant, and they don't have experience to manage people in smooth way. Every where problems will be there, how ever Manager needs to avoid developing only one person in team. they should develop everyone in the team,
Pros
The people who actually make the business run are great. The pay was good. Benefits good.
Cons
You must be on mgmts good side to get anywhere in this company. A brown noser would have it great here. Management speaks lies to you and about you. No real support from management. Never received a review in the 2 years I worked there, although I got constant pay raises every 6 months. You get blamed for what others do wrong just by being in the wrong place at the wrong time. This company only tolerates elderly people unless in management. Age discrimination seems rampant.
Advice to Senior Management
Clean up your act. It is an act. No support for the people shows a real lack of concern for the employee. It shows an I don't care attitude for success.
Pros
it was a steady paycheck
Cons
Limited opportunities for growth and development
Advice to Senior Management
I think that diversity training and inclusion training should be manadatory for all associates. New ideas are not embraced and differences are not welcomed.
Pros
Good mangemnt .. helps you develope
Cons
must be a self starter to succeed.
Advice to Senior Management
Must follow bottom line projects wiht higher priority
