Pros
Got paid vaca and sick days. People were nice if you did what you were suppose to.
Cons
People took advantage of the Union
Pros
benefits are good and the work is ok
Cons
retailer does not care about its employees as much as the bottom line.
Advice to Senior Management
let your people know they have value to your organization
Pros
you meet all walks of life
you can get feedback from customers about what they do not like or what they like
you can shop before leaving work
Cons
where do I begin...they wont listen to employees input about lowering their prices to keep customers coming back. I worked for Acme for 39 yrs. and just retired with such an axe to grind. They (the company) keeps taking and taking; they dont realize they are pushing the shoppers put the door to cheaper stores where they can get more groceries for their money.
Advice to Senior Management
LOWER THE PRICES......TAKE A HINT FROM J.C. PENNEY. You have to help the American public and show you are wiling to take a cut yourself to get the economy rolling again. Craig Herkert is a great president and has some good ideas but supervalu wont let him carry out his vision.
Pros
Exciting, fast-paced environment. Lots of opportunities and learning and advancement. Great people in IT!
Cons
Company is going through transformation to adjust to market realities - that is a good move but sometimes it causes people to flee and we have lost some great talent!
Advice to Senior Management
Great to have visionary leadership - keep up the transforming!
Pros
A good work place. Lots of opportunity. Easy to move around between departments. Flexible work environment. Good people to work with.
Cons
Raises don't even keep up with the cost of living. Hardly any bonuses paid out the last 3 years. Overworked in some departments.
Advice to Senior Management
Make it easier to move between departments. Pick a direction the company should go and stick to it. Offer cost of living raises.
Pros
Easy work, days go by fast
Cons
Slow to adapt change, too much doing things the way they have always been done.
Pros
The internship wasn't highly structured like some companies - meaning that if you wanted to learn more about the company, meet people, and get noticed -- you actually had to work at it. In my opinion this is a good thing - it reflects the "real world". A lot of internships are task based, but if you do a great job at that task you definitely have the opportunity to expand your horizons. (communicate goals early on with your manager)
Great company to intern at, unless you feel the need to have your hand held. If you want to have your hand held go work for Cargill, CH Robinson etc.... but you will be waiting in line for promotions if you are hired behind the 30 other people hired the year you were.
Cons
-Older workforce, can be difficult to come into as a young person.
-Slightly boring culture depending on the group you are with.
Advice to Senior Management
-Corporate departments are extremely separated, seems like nobody talks to each other. Lots of opportunities for improvements if departments communicated more.
-Tons of manual work and reliance of Excel... again - lots of opportunities for improvements. Needs to be an IT consultative department/business function.
Pros
Stable industry. Opportunities for advancement and growth. Have workplace empowerment
Cons
Very Price competitive industry. Low margins high debt.
Advice to Senior Management
Always keep in touch with the troops on the ground. Take upward feedback, and acknowlege successes.
Pros
Again, a great work-life balance. Leadership has a vested interest in seeing you succeed. The company is highly-regarded in the communities it operates.
Cons
At times, it seemed like the company had little urgency to improve its poor performance. Leadership seemed to sugar-coat company-wide issues.
Advice to Senior Management
My Manager did an excellent job at this, but I have heard others express frustration over unfair and inconsistent performance appraisals
Pros
Large Company, fair compensation, good benefits, diversity.
Cons
Poor Leadership, upper management seems to only care about themselves.
